People mostly visit Florianopolis for the beautiful beaches of Santa Catarina island. There is some history here too, from early natives to the Spanish and the Portugese. This Palacio is nice for a quick visit. Don’t expect a lot (small and not much to see), but the entry is cheap and they try to upkeep it well.

It is a two-story building that works as a museum. Inside the building there are several art objects like paintings, newspaper articles from 19th-20th centuries and some manuscripts of the poet Joao da Cruz e Sousa. Furniture of an old era is also found in the rooms. What I liked the most of this building was its architecture, both inside and outside, beautiful details every corner. Entrance is as low as less than U$2 and I think it worths it.

Went inside hoping to get away from the heat, which turned out to not be the case at all. For R$5 entry, we wondered through the exhibition dedicated to the poet after whom the building is named, and then of course upstairs to the well-maintained rooms where the Governor lived and conducted official business. Highly recommend for those interested in history and beautiful design, with great views at the Catedral Metropolitana from the palace balconies. There was also an incredible art exhibition, "Sobrevoo", on downstairs which we stumbled upon in search of restrooms. Definitely worth a visit!

This is an old palace that has been turned into a "museum". Frankly, this is an island with outstanding natural beauty and a relatively short history. If you want to see museums, go to another city. While in Floripa, enjoy the beaches, the hikes, the restaurants, the views...

This restored historic building is now a memorial to the most famous local poet. Worth a quick visit. Afterwards you might want to get a coffee and a snack at Cafe Kairos on the other side of the park.
