A beautiful building & a lovely garden :)
Feb 2019
It's a building which actually looks much like a "sprawling mansion" of a wealthy family instead of a workplace for public service (a water treatment plant or such where the Building's inside is off-limits to the public but where I didn't see anyone outside the Building either which may be due to either being weekend or being only in the part of the grounds where the public have access), but yes "quite worthwhile" visiting here for are the beauty of the Building (which I would say is pretty well-maintained) & the nice grounds on the front side with trees & plants like a mini-park but where actually the "best part" is like a corner of the grounds right in front of the Building where there's a garden with plenty of globe-shaped green shrubs & a number of red roses (not a big or colorful garden but one which I would say is "appealing to the eye" & which is actually pretty great for photo-ops not just for the garden itself but also with the front face of the Building along one side & this structure like a small tower on the opposite side which to me is just charming to look at although that tower too is off-limits inside as is the case for the Building itself).

Charming square in a charming neighbourhood

In the year 1904, the Guaibense Hydraulics was built by the private company of the same name, which captured water from Lake Guaíba and distributed it, without any treatment, to the population of the city.
In 1927, a U.S. company, Ulen and Company, built the current Hydraulics building. Inspired by the Palace of Versailles and its gardens, the building has eclectic positivist traces. Behind it, the water treatment tanks are located.
The great hydraulic tower was deactivated in 1969 and, for a long time, its water tank was able to supply the large buildings of the central area of Porto Alegre.
Since December 15, 1986, at the 25th anniversary of the DMAE, Hydraulics is home to a cultural center.
The set of marble carved statues, next to the Imperial Fountain, is the oldest monument in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, built in 1866. The four statues are remnants of the hydraulic sculpture installed first at Praça da Matriz, at the time denominated Dom Pedro II Square, by the Moinhos de Vento Hydraulic Company in order to make the water supply of the city. Later on, the pieces were dismantled and stored and later installed in the Dom Sebastião Square, on Avenida Independência. Since 2014, the four statues, after being restored, were installed in the gardens of Hydraulics Moinhos de Vento, organized around a new mirror of water with a central fountain.

A Garden By the City
Mar 2019 • Friends
Although it is a small park but it is filled with many groups of family and friends gathering around. We are lucky to catch a school of graduates taking their graduation photos. It is such a heartwarming place in the middle of the busy city.

A lovely garden
Jul 2017 • Business
We were so fortunate that this is right across the street from the hotel. We enjoyed strolling in the garden and watching all the people. Sunday, everyone was taking pictures of their children, or their spouse. A shared space for the community.

Well preserved old spot
Jul 2015 • Friends
It's rare to find around Porto Alegre an old palace so well preserved like this one. The garden right in front is pretty relaxed and if you feel you can have a pic-nic around there.

Wonderful setting for a picnic
Jun 2015 • Friends
It's a wonderful place to have a picnic, enjoying the well maintained garden. Although in the middle of the city it's a peaceful place.

an oasis in town
Aug 2014 • Family
This green area in front of the Moinhos de Vento's Hydraulic is a true green oasis amid stone forest. The site has its architecture well preserved from the early twentieth century with beautiful gardens and lawns which are great for relaxing in the work intervals.
