The most important thing you should know about Usina Do Gasômetro is that it´s not only a cultural center, you gotta take advantage of the entire complex. People who live in Porto Alegre usually reffer (or refer?) to "Gasômetro" as the whole Rio Guaiba´s shore.

First of all, prefer to visit it in the morning, specially in the weekends, when the place gets "too popular", and you may find some trouble with pickpockets, in the morning is preocupation free. The place is awesome, and the chosen one Porto Alegrense elected for jogging and running due to the amazing view and "beach sensation" it has.

Unfortunately the facilities are restricted, its hard to find WCs and places to eat and drink, only a few dirty tents selling drinks and dangerous food.

The mayor is now taking a major refurb in the place for the soccer World Cup (since the place is very near to Beira Rio Stadium), and promises to be one of the most beautiful places in the country.

My suggestion, go to Usina do Gasometro near to 10:00 am for a bike riding (theres Samba bikes for renting) you just need to get the app for your mobile phone to release them. Take a ride in south direction to see the beautiful Marinha do Brasil Park (Brasil´s Navy Park), and after Beira Rio Stadium, the place wich is hosting next Soccer World Cup, just in front of the stadium, in the very same side of the street you are going to be biking, theres one of the most delicious places to eat the traditional barbecue, the price is high, about R$ 50,00 per person, but it worth. After the heavy food take a rest at Parque Gigante (the place where the restaurant is located) and return the same way biking.

Additionaly theres some four place bike to carry your child in the weekends, it´s kind of fun for the litlle ones.

Iconic landmark of Porto Alegre with a great view to Guaíba river.A historic building with a museum inside it, quite empty, by the way. I think the structure should be better used. Worth to know, though.

Beautiful at dawn. A lot of people, activity and attractions. A must go once here I would say.
Very frightening right after that. We were there and there was a crowd of policemen around which was strange per se. When the night came there was mainly strange people and us. Everybody went home at 21hs. We stayed a little after that and the feeling was not good. The sun is coming down very late as it is summertime now. Enjoy while you see the sunlight. Great place to be until that.

I am suspected of speaking of Porto Alegre, my city, to you citizens of the world, but this city of 2 million inhabitants in the metropolitan region has some very interesting places in nature and cultural sites. I am 34 years living out in several places of the world but we always have the nostalgia of the place of childhood and adolescence. One of these is this Cultural Center called Usina do Gasômetro. Although it is now under maintenance renovation, and I hope the City Mayor finishes soon (8/2018), it is a good reference point for you to enjoy Lake Guaiba, take the tour boats, get to know the at Moacyr Scliar Park (was a great writer) the banks of the Lake Guaiba. The structure is still good and you access by bus or on foot by the famous Rua da Praia. This street has several historical buildings. It lacks the Mayor to accelerate and finish even the maintenance and further dissemination of this building which is part of the history and progress of the City since 1926. It pays you to spend 1 to 2 hours. Or more so if you want to see the famous sunset in Guaiba Lake . There goes "Tchê friend"

This once-an-industrial venue is simply spectacular! Well locate at the end (or beginning) of the jogging stretch along the Guaiba Lake, this trendy handcraft place is also a point for the inclusive queer culture of the city. Saturday and Sundays are super busy, when they close the road by the Lake and there is plenty of activities around.

Do not bother going into the cultural house unless you are interested in exhibitions. The Gasômetro is an icon of the city, known for being a good place for afternoon picnics and having a great sunset view. Take a walk by the river and enjoy the day to relax or rent a bike.

The "gasometro" looks like an unesthetical empty warehouse.
One can go to the top of it, but the windows distract from enjoying the view. It's not really worth it to visit this building.

Lots of work now on the outside grounds, so no sunset watching allowed. I hope it gets back to normal sooner than later.
