It is a very traditional square located in the Historic Center. Spacious and with many attractions in the surrounding area (such as the Memorial do RS, Farol Santander and Clube do Comércio). There are monuments, especially the one dedicated to Osório. Lots of trees and lots of people. The famous Book Fair takes place annually in this square. Worth knowing.

Unfortunately, it became dangerous to walk there even during the day (pick pocketing). Better if you are in a group. This 'Praca' in iconic and should be better preserved too.

This square is famous in the city of Porto Alegre for having in November the main book fair of the city (actually, the main book fair of the state of "Rio Grande do Sul state").

However, the place is an agreeable area with benches and centenary trees as well as some monuments in honor to poets (like Mario Quintana) and other important historical people.

In the square its located the Santander Cultural and the main art museum of the city, MARGS (Museum of art of "Rio Grande do Sul"), which are very interesting places to visit for their collections.

The area gather also many kiosks spread at open air, with all sorts of things being sold.

As many other places in the city is desperately in need for better care. It is not recommended to go there at night. If you are not from the city, nowadays for safety reasons, it is better to be accompanied by a local to walk around at the center of Porto Alegre.

Not a safe place to visit and not enough attractions - the main things to see are around it, not in the square itself. The only moment when it actually feels like a decent place to be in is when Porto Alegre's Book Fair is happening (from mid October to mid November).

In the heart of the city center, this square hosts some of the most important museums in the city. Very crowded during the day (watch out for thieves), and extremely dangerous during the night (do not go there by yourself).
In a certain period of the year it hosts the city book fair.

I am not going back,There is nothing worth checking there, besides that, downton is not safe. It is a famous square , but I do not think it is worth taking your time, unless you know someone who can tell you the story of the place, but other than that go somewhere else.

Historic square close to historic centre of Porto Alegre. Worth a visit by day. You can do it by foot and its is safe enough during the day. Historic statues and buildings.

A ideal place to relax and walk surrouded by trees and pounds. In the down town area, or close to the University campus, Whatch out for not nice people around.
