Make the type of vacation you want!
Apr 2021
Pipa Beach is one of the most famous beaches of Brazil. It is located next to city of Natal, the capital city of state of Rio Grande do Norte, the municipality of Tibau do Sul, exactly 84 km from the capital of the state.
“Pipa” is the 4th name for this part of Brazil. Originally, it was called Orotapiry, or "White man's village." In 1626, the beach became known as Itacoatiara, meaning "the painted cliff", later becoming Ponta do Cabo Verde ("Green Headland"), and is now Praia da Pipa.
As recently as the 1970’s, this was just a fishing village, but it was “discovered” by backpackers and surfers. Today, it is a small, cosmopolitan beach town, with restaurants of many types whose owners came from many foreign countries and decided to stay. There are hotels and pousadas (bed and breakfasts) for any budget.
Every time we come here, we stay at a different hotel and each experience is different. There is a lot of nightlife and visitors from all over the world. The last time we were here, I met travelers from Chile, Texas, Australia, England, Germany and all parts of Brazil.
Here you can have a calm, laid-back vacation or a party-all-night vacation: it’s up to you. If you can, you really must visit Pipa!

Mercenary
Dec 2020
This place needs more beach and less hustlers. My family and I were set upon by every type of huckster you could think of upon our arrival. The atmosphere was very mercenary. If they could not get your money in short order, you were cast aside for the next victim. Now the beach itself, the area is small but because of the natural rock formations, pools are made that are very good for children to play in. The rest of the beach is occupied by tour boats that come and go with military precision. If what you want is a pure tourist experience, this is your beach. My rateing is because I wanted more than the feeling I was being used as a source of income. But thats just me.

Good beaches in a fake town
Jan 2020 • Couples
Pipa is obviously famous for its beaches. I was not disappointed by them. In particular, I would recommend checking out Baia dos Golfinhos (at low tide) and the short but almost untouched stretch of beach between Praia do Amor and Praia do Centro. Both of them are very peaceful and beautiful. While Praia do Madeiro is not extraordinary, at high tide I had the opportunity to see several dolphins there, so make sure you give it a chance too.
I would avoid Praia do Centro, which is by far the least pretty and way too crowded; at high tide, there is basically no beach left there so that people are literally packed together.
Snorkeling isn’t great anywhere so no need to bring your masks.
The town center is nice, with many decent shops and restaurants. However, the definition of center only applies to a stretch of a few hundred meters of the Main Street. The rest of town is a chaotic, dirty and stinking maze of unpaved streets with no charme. If you are unlucky, to reach the town center from your pousada you will have to walk hundreds of meters in between piles of rubbish and unfinished buildings. In my opinion, this spoils the whole atmosphere of the place, which turned out to be a bit depressing.

Pipa is full of Nature & Nightlife
Jan 2020 • Solo
Pipa is the most famous and multicultural place in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. There are beautiful beaches such as Baía dos Golfinho, Praia do Amor, Chapadão etc. You can see cliffs, dunes and rainforest in the same landscape. If lucky you can see and swim with dolphins there. There are lots of things to do in Pipa at night if you like parties.

An incomparable place
Dec 2018
Pipa beach is in Rio Grande do Norte state, approximately 1,200 km from Salvador by highway BR 101 or you can go by plane to Natal airport with a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes in a direct flight. From the airport to Pipa beach it is approximately 80 km.
The characteristic is the junction between imposing dunes superimposed on the horizon above the cliffs that end in geomorphologically alive by the action of the sea and winds; It was discovered in the 1970s, when a group of surfers discovered and they began to frequent the beaches of the municipality, attracting more and more people from all over the world.
In Pipa beach, you can shop in stores, drive a buggy and visit the beautiful beaches, the most popular is Curral Beach, also known as Dolphin Bay. You can arrine there by boat rides, or walk along the beach.
It was splendid to visit Pipa. I had the opportunity to see the dolphins and the evening stroll through the village. I drove with my family and stayed at the Marajoara Inn. Pipa beach is a very good, quiet and safe place. The bad thing is to get to the beaches, because you have to go down stairs, because of the cliffs. Curral Beach Staircase has approximately 130 steps.
It is worth visiting this place, as it is one of the coastal paradise of Brazil. I Highly recommend without fear of making mistake.

Pipa and Praia dos Golfinos
Sep 2018 • Solo
It's a very nice place, but full of people during SH summer season.
The weather is good, temp. of the water is perfect, you can walk from Pipa to praia dos golfinos (the best for swimming) with an incredible landscape full of rocks and different sand colors. Praia dos Golfinos in spanish is Pala de Delfines and in english is Dolpihn Beach and it's true, they are swillimg and jumping around you, it's a wonderful experience.

A cool rustic beach hangout destination with beautiful surrounding surf beaches.
Feb 2019 • Couples
Located about 1.5 hour drive south of Natal. Pipa is a famous hangout for Brazilians young and old, Argentinians, backpackers and all those looking for a relaxed beach and sun get away...

There is a decent amount of small bars, many eateries and restaurants. A whole bunch of different kind of accommodation from cheap hostels to boutique 5 star hotels, no massive resorts as yet...

Pipa beach is reasonable with lots of submerged rocks if you just wanna cool off and just stay under the umbrellas and eat and drink all day. In my opinion, the better beaches are within a few kms either side of Pipa, like Praia do Amor, Baia dos Golfinhos and Praia do Madeiro.
These are surf beaches, regular 1-3 ft very surfable consistant waves. Water temp between 26-30 degrees all year round.
These beaches are all surrounded by cliffs so access can adventurous. Walking access beach to beach over a few rocks is possible but you need to consider the tide, talk to the locals and hotel staff recommendations. If you want a taxi to any of these it will be R$20. Uber is there but a very few around. There are food, drinks, umbrellas and sun chairs are all available at a reasonable cost.

I would recommend to visit here for at least a couple days to forget about life for a bit and enjoy the beautiful NE of Brazil.

Too Extreme Ups and Downs
Feb 2019 • Family
We were prepared for the strenuous walks up and down their cliffs to the beach and commercial area. But, for all of us it was pushing it to climb up a very steep incline to get back up from the beach after lunch. And, this was just to the comercial street. We then had a similar hike to get back to our apartment complex. It wasn't fun.

Just avoid center beach
Jan 2019 • Couples
Pipa is beautiful, amazing, a real paradise, the wheather is all year round summer, it only rains during april and may. It has the perfect size so you can walk to everywhere. The center avenue is joyful and colourful, music everywhere. Is the perfect place to disconnect, you really go down the speed here, and not needing to be aisolated in a desert island! The wheather, the warm sea, the long walks, the good mood around, makes you recharge of all the good there is.
