Russo is truly the best guide a person could hope for. A native of Vidigal, he knows his way around the favela as well as he knows the rest of town. Every excursion with Russo is a lesson in botany, local culture, national history, and even Portuguese. We hiked several trails, had several outings on the town (both day and night) and saw some live music. Russo is very resourceful and well-networked. If you want to do something that he doesn't know about directly, he has lots of friends he can ask! For instance, he helped point me in the direction of a chôro concert, which is not the easiest thing in the world to find, even in a big city like Rio. He also knows a lot of great places to eat! And everywhere we went, he seemed to be running into old friends. I know for a fact that when I book my next trip to Brazil, Russo will be my first call!

Interesting and safe tour ! Totally recommended

The tour with Russo is super nice. You feel safe the whole time, he picks you up at the main square of the favela right by the Main Street and in the end he even stays with you until you sit in your taxi/Uber. During the tour he has interesting stories about his childhood and guides you through the small ways of the favela until the top, where you have an amazing view. I would recommend doing the tour with him!

Hiking to Morro dois Irmaios

Nice and friendly guide. Very helpful and the tour was fun and amazing. I suggest him to anyone:) He told us some interesting stories and took a lot of photos of everyone. We felt very safe with him in the favelas. He knows everybody there. Good choice for a nice program if you are into hiking and beautiful views.

Best Tour In Rio!!

Russo is the best. He is unbelievably knowledgeable about the favela and it’s history, having lived there for so long. He also knows everyone! It felt like every person who walked by knew him and said hello. It felt incredibly comforting and safe. The tour was extremely flexible - if we wanted to stop to see a specific street art or stop for food/drink, easily done.

Vidigal has incredible views and Russo knows exactly where to go to check them out. If you want to see what a favela is really like and not the negative stereotypes that other tourism companies may propegate, Russo is your man.

He primarily speaks Portuguese - I don’t speak any - but his English is easily understood and he is so accommodating and willing to try his best. There was not one thing he spoke about that we didn’t understand by working together. We spoke about it and he is continually trying to improve too.

I can’t say enough. Truly a great experience and would recommend to anyone who wants a true favela experience. Russo rocks!

Our wonderful experience with Russo

Russo is the kindest person ever. He took really good care on us, explaining his life in the favela. He's also a great photographer and took plenty pictures of us. We also share a beer with locals at the end of the tour. We strongly recommend this tour.

It was interesting and fun to be with Russo. He was sincere and interesting. He know everyone in the favela and we felt welcome by the residence. He was keen to take pictures for us and even put a video together for us after the trip. There was lots of steps to climb and walking uphill and it was not difficult. Russo was very genuine and looked after us well. I would recommend this tour for any age group, providing you are comfortable in walking uphill or taking lots of steps.

Amazing tour, great guide
Russo is a great guide! He told about how the favela grew, and what it looked like when he was a child.
He seems to know everyone, because he's such a nice guy. And he's a great photographer too, I got all the photos afterwards through WhatsApp.
I highly recommend his tour. It's 100% safe, and you'll see a side of Rio that is way more interesting than all the touristy places...

Amazing tour!

The tour with Russo was amazing! Next to a tour guide he is also a talented photographer. He is super friendly, enthousiast and has a lot of knowledge about the nature and life in the Favela. He told us a lot of interesting insights about Vidigal! The view on top of the mountain is also very beautiful. You can’t leave Brazil without booking this tour :)

Morro dois Irmãos + Vidigal
Beautiful experience, highly reccomended.
After a ride with mototaxi, Russo brought us at the top of Dois Irmãos, where the view over Rio is mesmerizing (I suggest to go there in the afternoon, to enjoy the sunset).
After, Russo guided us through Vidigal, from the top to the bottom.
During the journey, it was a pleasure to hear about the history of Russo, Vidigal and Rio.
It is a must!

Going to Dois Irmaos with Russo was really interesting and he gave us lots of insight which cannot be obtained by anyone apart from someone that has lived there for decades. Apart from the actual hike to the peak I would highly recommend to have a walk with Russo in the favela of Vidigal and see things that you will certainly not read on the Internet. Also Russo is fluent in English and keen to explain everything in detail.
