This full-day tour of Rio de Janeiro with convenient hotel pickup is a popular choice for visitors with limited time in the area. Going with a guide means you hit all the city’s highlights without the stress of navigating and hear important context about landmarks along the route, including the Christ the Redeemer statue, Sugarloaf Mountain, and the Selarón Steps. Round out the tour with a well-deserved Brazilian-style lunch.

An oasis in a dodgy part of Rio. Fab cakes, teas, coffee and service with a smile. Went in the morning. Lovely loos and watched concert rehearsal (sneakily).

If classical music is among your subjects of interest, "Sala Cecília Meireles" is the right place for you! Totally renovated, the new "Sala Cecília Meireles", in downtown Rio, offers a varied program with the best of classical music, with tickets, generally, at popular prices. Check its program and organize your visit. It is easily reachable by taxi or subway (Rio's subway "Cinelândia" Station is at a walking distance), but due to Rio's actual security conditions, I strongly advise you to use taxis at all times, principally if you do not speak Portuguese. Enjoy!

I have been here as soon as it reopen after years of renovation works. It is looking very nice and comfortable, with a potent air conditioning system (do take a sweater).

Sala Cecilia Meireles is a traditional theatre located in the bohemian district of Lapa, in Rio de Janeiro. Close to some other great architectural milestones, it was fully rebuilt to its original grandeur a couple of years ago. A great experience, specially when performing classical musical masterpieces or ballet.

One of the very few places for classical music in Rio. Recently renovated, a mid-sized concert hall that offers chamber music, duets, solo concerts and high brow popular music too. Located in the sleazy Lapa neighbourhood, so if you feel too posh after leaving it, you can always grab something dangerous to eat on one of the many street vendors nearby.
