Arpoador is one of the the best spots to watch the sunset in Rio. Go to the Arpoador rocks and join cariocas and tourists applauding the King Sun. To enjoy the beach, though, I prefer early in the morning. In the afternoon, be more watchful than usual. Unfortunately many young violent pickpockets walk in groups to steal small objects like... This is the promontory at the end of Ipanema which is noted for its viewing platform for sunsets. There weren't any great sunsets when we were there - too cloudy - but great views down the beach during the day - best in the morning to have the light behind you

It's not a coincidence this is the number 1 place in Rio to observe the sunset. Just sit on the rock and wait for nature take care of the rest... Another special part is when the crowd aplaude the show, spetacular...

The most point for the sunset is in Arpoador Beach,on Posto Seis in Rio De Janeiro. .Arpoador is a region located on the southern zone of the city Rio de Janeiro, in a small peninsula between Ipanema and Copacabana. Part of its territory belongs to the neighbourhood of Ipanema, and part to Copacabana. Come here to enjoy one of the... More

Arpoador despite its reputation for being a good place to surf.. read waves and lots of them. Offers some of the best water quality and calm beaches to go to when the waves are bad all along the other beaches. The locals tend to bring lots and lots of small children here all of the time due to it being... More

I absolutely loved coming here. It was one of my favorite places, not only in the neighborhood, but in Rio! The sunset here was one of the best I've ever seen! Try checking out the sunset while having a caipirinha. It's totally worth it!

Everyday the same ritual for the locals and more and more tourists, to climb this big rock before sunset and in unique and cozy way say goodbye and thank you to the sun. A lot of people feeling emotional and go back with tears on their eyes, when crowd clapping to wonder of the nature.

When I think about Arpoador, I think about sunset and waves. This spot is a grat place to watch the sun goes down and touch the water. Also, after a storm, its amazing to sit down there and watch the waves hitting the rocks. Watch your belongs and try to take only the necessary.

Very nice place with coffee bars, small street market and where you can walk in total security on the rocks at the end of the beach, enjoining the views for Ipanema and Copacabana. A place chose by may surfs are in practice because the ocean his a little low movement than at the beach, specially in winter time.

Staying in Ipanema

Neighborhood Profile
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.
