Neighborhood: Ipanema
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.

It is scorching hot during December, but sit here to watch sunset. It is absolutely beautiful. Take a swim if you'd like to and the view is amazing!Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 29, 2024
- NORMA GCastelar, Argentina4,733 contributionsIt is a beach that is used a lot by surfers, waiting for the waves with their boards. There is also the ARPOADOR stone or viewpoint, where people go to watch the sunset when it is clear. The sun hides behind the mountains and you have an excellent view of IPANEMA beach and LEBLON in the distance. There are a lot of stalls that sell you drinks, shots and other things.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 21, 2024
- PATO-BETOSan Martin, Argentina21,088 contributionsLots of surfers and impressive waves. It is not a beach to enjoy the sea. A large rock formation from where you can have good views. There is a path. People walk among the stones and sit and have a beer while enjoying the landscape. Surely the sunsets must be incredible.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 7, 2024

The sunset from Arpoador is very beautiful. I also recommend the sunset from the Morro de Urca.
To enjoy the beach I prefer to move along Ipanema
It can be reached by bicycle. Be careful that at sunset it is difficult to find a parking space

Excellent ! I am a hotelier and this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. It's Boutique.
Care in every detail. The sea view room is spectacular: the design, the comfort, the size and an unbeatable view of the sea, which has no noise at all, because no cars pass in front of it. It faces directly onto the beach. You can hear the Sea. The comfort and view of the room are unbeatable.
Breakfast is spectacular!
They have bicycles, umbrellas, chairs and parasols, on the beach, yoga classes.
The rooms and the hotel have a lot of design and excellent service!!! . Excellent location. It's worth staying! For me, it is the best hotel in Rio! I'll be back without a doubt!

The place is nice especially early in the morning (early morning in my humble opinion): it has big waves, a lot surfers, epic views and clean water. I don’t think it is safe there during the night and late evenings (smelly, had some trash, etc.) but must have for everyone.

Fantastic location. Excellent breakfast and internal services. The beach is a few meters away. I didn't give 5 because the rooms are small. If someone comes with a lot of suitcases it's a problem. But otherwise the bed is comfortable and the bathroom is not big but it's fine!!!

Love this spot. Whether your arrive here at 6am in the morning or stay till sunset, this spot is always a buzz with activity. You will come across fitness junkies, beach goers, etc and could actually just stay all day people watching. Just my personal experience and although nothing has ever happened to me, I did feel a little unsafe climbing up onto the rock by myself at 6/7am. Although there were plenty people on the promenade, there weren’t many up on the rock. In fact the only people up on the rock that time of the morning was a few models doing a photoshoot. That being said, I did not experience anything untoward when I did make my way up there but just be careful as there’s no one around on top of the rock that early in the morning And keep in your mind that should you get approached, you’re a grongo and you don’t speak Portuguese. I have to stress, plenty of people down below on the promenade which makes it safe. However, at sunset, the rock is full as everyone is rushing to their favorite spot to catch the sunset, you simply must experience that for sure 👍🏻 Tip: I’ve been to Rio plenty of times and lived there for a year...DRESS LIKE A CARIOCA (local) for guys it means havaianas, sunga (shorts or denim shorts If you have to) and if you must carry a back pack then make sure it’s that drawstring back packs. No watches, no jewelry but you can wear your sunglasses. Keep your phone out of sight and don’t wear name brands that scream I’m a gringo (best to not where any t-shirt or sweater) and you’ll fit right in ;-) 👍🏻 Oh and when passing someone just nod and say bom dia or oi, tudo bem

The view is increadible and the beach is so beautifull - early on the morning.
Perps and the general crowd that ocuppies every space of this place with no idea of social distance, does not like to wake up early. So, forget also about the sunset. Also is not recommendable to go if theres is not a pollice crew every corner of the place (on the rock and at the beach also).
If Brazil is a land of contrast, Rio is the capital. Any tourist there would make 100 K a year, the average of poor people in Brazil is less than 1 K. That´s why is not a good idea displaying anything of value there.

Arpoador is located at the end of Copacabana beach and the beginning of Ipanema beach. The beach is mostly a surfing one. However, it has a stunning panoramic view of Ipanema and Leblon The subshine with the panoramic view is really striking.

This is the left extreme of Ipanema beach, near a rock where waves beat harder and the view is spectacular at sunset. Good for surfing and relatively calm, especially on weekdays. Crowdy on weekends.

Great little hotel directly on the beach. Only one in Rio. Renovation has been very good. Good decoration. Simple but nice and sound proof bedrooms. Great professional staff. Amazing breakfast in perfect spot. Only criticism is that the common area is not really comfortable. No sofas, no armchairs... it can look a bit like a hostel place when it is full of people working on their computer. Also when coming back at night there is reallynowhere nice to stay . I believe it would work to replace part of the long bank with a few sofas. Just an idea. Apart from this well done !

A smaller beach, W of Copacabana with great sunset view. It's an easy walk from Copacabana Fort.
We were there on their holiday Monday, the beach is jammed with people. The waves are pretty strong to swim. It has access to a beach that faces east, which has relative calm water.
We entered the park at Garota de Ipanema, which has access to the beach. ... more pix on Google Maps

No pasa nada.
