Nice rocky area between Copacabana and Ipanema. Fun for those who don't like just sitting on the beach.

If you come to Rio, this is a place you must come and spend a few hours contemplating the amazing view of Ipanema ("rough water" in native indian laguage), and Leblon beaches.

I took a walk from Ipanema beach to Arpoador and got my favorite views of Rio here. I loved the nature right by the sea here. This place should not be missed when visiting Rio.

Watching the sunset in the Arpoador was really good. Be carfull though with the weather. If it is cloudy it is not that nice.and get very windy. The sunset is at around 5pm. Get a coconut water in one of the stand close by and enjoy the view. Make sure you get some good shoes with grips, the rocks are... More

Arpoador is pretty much just a place at the end of Ipanema Beach. There are a bunch of rocks to climb on, and some surfers, and some guys lifting weights, and you can get some really nice pics of Ipanema from there. That's about it. I guess it's neat to watch the sunset, but I don't think this should be... More

Arpoador is an rocky area the juts out into the sea at the north end of Ipanema. It provides a great viewpoint for pictures of Ipanema and the famous sunsets. Every evening hundreds of romantics work their way out on the rocks to enjoy the view of the sun going to bed for the night. There is no cost but... More

A simple, if not pleasant, viewpoint for taking pictures and enjoying the many views Rio has to offer. A quick walk up the rockfaces gets you to the top, where you have panorama views of the ocean, Ipanema Beach and down towards Pedra de Gavea and Barra da Tijuca (Copacabana is mostly blocked due to Forte Copacabana). LIttle vendors selling... More

Staying in Ipanema

Neighborhood Profile
Ipanema
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.
