Traditional
Jan 2020
This traditional neighborhood in the city was once one of the most sophisticated in town. Currently impovireshed, basically residential, it lost much of its aura after the refurbishing and building of aterro do flamengo in the 1950's. Still some traditional sites to visit, such as Julieta Serpa house.

stayed here for honeymoon

I would say this place was excellent was 5 min walk to the centre, or you could take underground or bus to Copacabana beach. lots of food places and beach was really good. Wasn't as busy as Copacabana but still really good.

A nice district with a very bad smell
Mar 2017
It has some really nice parks, and really nice views, but any where you walk smells like pee. Near the beach it is very nice, two blocks back it is not so pretty, it feels like very local. Not many places to go out at night, nor many nice restaurants where to eat.

some good restaurants, interesting place to visit
Sep 2016 • Couples
I was only there briefly, but enjoyed my visit. Good selection of restaurants. Watch your valuables - the streets didn't feel particularly safe.

good for public transport.

"Beautiful Spot"

Flamengo Beach is just north of Copacabana. For about $1.50 from the other main beach locations you can catch a bus there. This Beach still has the beach activities yet with the calmer water and no waves seems to also bring a peacefulness. Plenty of room for a jog, bike ride or walk along the path or beach.

Nice district
Aug 2015 • Couples
The Flamengo district is another nice beachside area in Rio. North of Copacabana, it is home to the Aterro do Flamengo park as well as the Flamengo beach.

Relatively quiet and safe, it s residential with some commercial parts as well. The beach offers excellent vies of Sugar Loaf mountain as well as Morro da Urca. Recommended!

Nice area
Mar 2014 • Friends
Flamengo is a seaside district in Rio. The Flamengo beach is decent, quiet and more peaceful than the popular destinations. There is a nice park (Aterro de Flamengo) that offers good outdoor activities & a nice jogging track. Worth a visit.

I stayed 6 days at praia de flamengo area in a small studio. Ideally located to explore Rio 2 metro stations bus stops and plenty of taxis pass by all the time. Copacabana is 15 mins and Lapa and centro as as well 15 mins away so you can say you will stay in the middle of the action. The area is very safe as well. Will be back there on my next trip

Smelly with a A+ view.
Jan 2013
Flamengo streets are cool for walking around, some shopping, and good food. There is a good Devassa bar there and you should go but when you cross the street (wiiiiiiiiiide avenue) to go the beach area you realize a few things: view is amazing but pee smell baaad. It is somewhat clean during the week but expect to find some homeless suspicious dudes and dudesses strolling around. Also, DONT SWIM IN THERE.

shady parks and interesting views
Feb 2013
beautiful walks along the sea or through the reclaimed land which forms the park . take a massage in the shade, hire a bicycle and use the cycle track, jog , or simply stroll. Don´t think of swimming however as the water is too polluted. Newly installed shower/toilet facilities have helped
