I'm not a hiker, so this hike was very hard for me and we got dropped off about 20 minutes down the road from the main entrance, not good.
Once you get to the top it was worth every sweat and tear I shed on the hike up. Amazing views. I recommend going early, wear comfortable shoes, bring lots of water and don't booze the night before.

We took and uber right to start of the hike (highly advised). Otherwise you have alot more to walk from the bottom.

The hike took around 40mins as we took our time and stopped in the middle. And around 25mins coming down.

The hike is definitely worth it! Once at the top you will be mesmerized by the views. It's totally out this world. And not many people either!

We stayed at the top for around 45mins, taking some nice pictures.

Take plenty of water, and wear comfy trainers.

This was my first time hang gliding, and I could not think of a better location to have done it! Between the views the adrenaline, I cannot describe how amazing this experience was. Well worth the money! As a first time jumper, I was admittedly overrun with adrenaline, but Ricardo was very professional, calm, and clear in his instructions. This made the experience smooth and free of any issues. Highly recommend you check this off your bucket list, if you make it down to Rio.

On the bottom of Pedra Bonita is an office of the biggest paragliding school in the world. They have 100 instructors and each instructor is only allowed 4 flights a day. They take you up to the top of the mountain and off you go. Fabulous. If you never tried paragliding before, this is the place to do it. Spectacular views and very professional, mostly english speaking, instructors.

We took a bus 551 from Copacabana to Sao Conrado and from there took a taxi(10-12Reais) to base of Pedra Bonita. After a 5-10min walk up the steep road, just before the Parking area the hiking trail starts. The hike is around 20minutes and very easy, i could practically run through most of the time. so its easy with kids too. The view from the top is just amazing.. You can see the Christ the Redeemer statue, the Twin brother mountain the sao conrado beach, Barra de Tijuca and the surroundings. The top is a rocky flat area so u could see the entire area from there. Back to the parking area if u continue further, you could see the launch pad for hand gliders and parachute?? jumping.
PS there is a small shop near the launch pad and a place to buy water near the parking lot.

Pedra Bonita trail is one of the nicest in the city. From there you get a clear view of Sao Conrado neighbourhood and west zone of Rio, besides, it is the best view of the emperor at Pedra da Gavea. If you are looking for an expert on natural attractions that can easily take you there, I'm Vinny from @BrazilExperienceTours get in touch with us through any social media and we'll gladly help you on your stay in Rio.

I was lucky enough to be staying at a hotel just a short distance from the entrance to the Petra Bonita trail. You enter the main carpark for the trail via a very steep ramp/driveway and then follow signs for the walking trail to the summit. I wasn't driving so ran/walked the route from the road, up the ramp then up the trail. It's not a long route but it very steep in places and you gain altitude quickly. One you're at the proper summit you get panoramic views of Rio and look over where the paragliders take off.

It's worth noting that you need to sign in and out of the trail for safety purposes. To do this you need to provide your name and a passport number at the security office.

Hi Friends,

Must visit! MUST Do gliding!

This place is actually not the starting point for gliding. It's a beach nearby. This place also good for hiking and picnic.

We did gliding so i will talk about that. There are 2 types of gliding experiece

1. Hang Gliding
2. Para Gliding

The flying institute will give you intro about it in detail so that you can choose.

We did Hang gliding. It was amazing. My instructor was Rafael. I will recommond him strongly. Picture attached.

Now about the package-
The experience is costly but worth it. Basis package 400 + 40 ( insurance ) = 440 BRL

Then another 100 BRL for photos and videos. Now important point - They will only tell you after gliding that only one camera (front or back) is included in the package and will try to ask for extra 50 bucks. But this is negotatiable. We paid 100 for all front and side camera.
Abother point, they will burn CD and give it so if you want pictures in pendrive, better get yours. As they will charge preimum if they will provide.

Try to get deal before hand.

We felt safe however heard that gliding could be dangearous so use causion.
Enjoy!

PS : There is instructor named Carlos also goes by nick name Musteek(not sure if i am spelling it correctly). He is bad person. No rspect. Very loud. Abusive. He can ruin your experince.

I am not in great shape although I run 2 to 3 times a week...I was hearing different stories about the climb to Pedra Bonita, but as I had guests at home that wanted to do it, I decided it was time.
We went with a friend of mine who had done it a few times and therefore was easy for us to find it. Not sure for someone who has never been if it's so easy. Nonetheless, we reached the highest possible peak with the car, paid R$5,00 and then started the hike. It's an uphill climb, for about 30-45 min, depending on how often you need water or a bit of a breather. I recommend you take some pictures along the way, some of the light from the sun inside the forest make for incredible pictures . When we got up there, all the energy lost for the climb, we got back 10 fold... Wow does not describe it. The fact that there are no fences or any security, makes it even more wild. Be careful if you bring children, wear shoes, not flip flops. Bring lots of water on hot sunny days, bring a hat, there is no shade up there. As some people may think, there is no one up there selling anything. I can't believe that after living in Rio for more than 3 years, this is the first time I have done this. Really a must.
The hike up to Pedra Bonita is actually higher than where the gliders have their platform. You can see them takeoff from there looking down.
