We took a taxi and enjoyed the experience. It is loud and crowded but that is part of the scene. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We loved it!

It’s a safe place for everyone. You can come here and enjoy the night. The place is hot like the samba. So came with summer clothes.

If you're looking for a relaxing and fun evening listening and dancing to Samba music, then this is NOT the place to go!

However if you're after an overcrowded (to the point you can no longer dance), sweat box of a place which seems to lack air conditioning, then this is for you.

We went to enjoy the final selection of Samba music for Carnival, but it was just an underwhelming and miserable experience. Unless you're centre and facing the stage, don't expect to see anything. Be prepared for the heat and sticky floors which are more akin to a 90s nightclub. Be prepared for expensive drinks and bars which lack sufficient change. Be prepared to be frisked on entry and warned of the dangers outside when you leave.

Not a nice place, not a nice experience and is an embarrassment to Samba.

The end of year match with Escola de Samba and preparing for Carnival. Salgueiro is one of the best quadra de Samba to enjoy in Rio, and one differencil servisse......they have Airconditioning, and teh Samba school is very well located at Tijuca. Just have a casual dress, with some read color and enjoy the Cranival and Samba with the cariocas.

One of the best places in Rio to feel the real mood of a samba school rehearsal. To spend a Saturday night at Salgueiro is to to get in contact with the Rio de Janeiro's soul. Do not expect to eat very well there, but you can always find some acceptable french fries. Grab a bottle of Brazilian beer and be happy! Salgueiro is not far away from city center or South Zone, so, taxi is always the best option

If you are in Rio few months before Carnival cannot miss to go to the quadra and assist to the show of Salgueiro team preparing for Carnaval contest in Sambodromo.
Ask to the taxi driver to bring you there.. everyone knows where it is..
even if it's a little bit far away, close to the favela, don't worry...it's full of people and there are a lot of taxis round the corner to bring you back in town.
The Quadra is a huge dancing floor with the band playing in the center and all the people around dancing. All around dancing floor, several stalls sell beer, drinks, snacks and food. Is an amazing experience, one of a kind, where you see locals enjoy the most, dancing samba, singing traditional samba songs. But is also a cultural experience getting in contact with the most authentic tradition and culture of brasil.
Go there dressed simply, with light clothes..inside is very hot...
a Must see if you are in town...

I went there on my own through a collective tour organized by my hotel to make sure I got there safely as the area is considered unsafe. Better go there with other people anyway so you can enjoy drinks together and feel the party spirit. The dancers were very good, the drinks were refreshing. You should go to a samba school at least once I’d you visit Rio. You’ll be seated on plastic seats until the dancing starts.

General: I just wanted to experience samba just like locals do, instead of fancy shows adapted for tourists. I found this tour through a travel agency (Setembro); they explained it was a rehearsal night for this samba school (rehearsal for Carnival). The place is like a large warehouse offering a spacious area for musicians and dancers; some food and souvenir shops complete the arrangement inside.

I liked: I saw local people visiting the place, some tourists, too. Espontaneous samba dancers visiting the place gave a good sample of the party. The show started with a group playing like modern brazilian music at the beginning, and several catchy traditional songs (with dancers exhibition) afterwards. Following this group, the rehearsal started with the School “bateria” playing music with such a great power. After a while, the singers appeared, followed by some dancers; just fascinating. Some time later, the parade rehearsal started with “baianas”, followed by “mulatas”, “passistas” and other participants. It was absolutely great, it was fun; I just witnessed the beginning of the rehearsal, since it was time to get the tour bus back to the hotel. Other than the show, I liked the nice service at the entrance, and gentle people servicing inside (food, beverages, souvenirs). I tried “caipirinha” and a sort of snack called “salgado”, and they were very good. I found this place to be a very good exhibition of samba music.

I did not like: The tour bus (Tourist Club) personnel picked me up at the wrong time: like an hour earlier than agreed. Morover, the ride back to the hotel area was earlier than promised when I reserved the tour; I had to leave when the rehearsal had just started. Besides, the tour bus guide did not add up big comments regarding this activity. To get a better experience of the School rehearsals, it might be better to hire a taxi to get there, and agree the pick up time back to the hotel (of course, with a reliable cab company, like Aerocoop). One way or another, prices are likely at the same the level. Though I was not happy at all with the tour company, this way of transportation is safe.
