Don´t go very late during the weekends and holidays! The water is so blue but sometimes the waves are big!

I recommend you go to this place without care about life, forget that you have a cell phone or leave it unplugged for a few hours and get lost in the blue sea, the breeze and the white sand ...

This beach is located in an area that is preserved (hopefully this won't changed) so it isn't as crowded as the other ones. It can be more deserted during low season but it still is pretty busy on weekends, holidays and summer. Patience is needed to find parking as well as to leave your parking spot if it is during rush hour. The currents are intense so be careful when going in the ocean. Sunsets are very pretty to watch from this beach.

You can go practically forever on the sand, starting from Reserva, either direction. Be sure to occasionally play tag with the seagulls, which is a chance to increase your pace.

This is probably one of the most pleasant beaches in Rio if you're not fussed about the celebrity way of life. It is very relaxed and democratic, the sea is very clean and you do have the feeling that you're not in a metropolis.

We stayed in a hotel opposite this beach in August 2017. The huge waves were crashing in and our two boys (10 and 13) spent many a happy hour playing in them. Soft sand underfoot right into the sea. We wouldn't swim in these conditions but it was exhillarating cavorting in the surf! Although sunny the beach was practically deserted. In the evening there's fab little beach bars all along the front.

The magic of this beach - actually a part of Barra da Tijuca beach - is that it is located in front of one of the city's biological reserves. So, you can't access by bus and you need to park your car before you arrive and access by walking through the sand. This makes the spot be very uncrowded and pretty relaxing.

This beach is very calm during the weekdays because it is not a mainstream beach in Rio. Some women often go for more comfy without the top wondering not being bothered, but it's becoming rarer. The water is often green and some periods of the year it becomes turquoise, but it's always very cold compared to other beaches in the city. It has a medium size -about 20 meters- strip of sand. Food can be bought on kiosks which can be found only in the beginning of this beach because the most of it is surrounded by a fence, like it was a private place, but it is not, the fence has open paths for public in general.

This beach is very pretty , we went on a sat. there was plenty of beach for the amount of people , plus the water was very clear and we got lucky it was warm. Pack what you need as it is not near stores. But there are little bars every few hundred yards.
Hire a carfrom your hotel, we were staying at golden tulip and used (Wagner) he is great, trustworthy and is fluent in English. spend the money and have them drop you and come back at a set time. It's well worth spending a couple hundred reais.
I recommend this beach to anyone. This is how I invisioned copacabana but sadly it had trash floating in its surf.
## but this beach does have a strong surf.
