One of the nicest museums of Rio de Janeiro. It's composed by two buildings, one used to be the interstate bus terminal, the other used to be the Navy Ministry's headquarters. Today, they arte joined by the roof and a footbridge on the last floor.
Bonus: there is a balcony and a restaurant at the very top that overlooks praça Mauá, and it has a pretty beautiful view.

I was with a British friend visiting the Samba exhibition, which was lovely and very interactive, but almost none of the pieces or musical instruments had English tags, explanations or subtitles. I did my best to give her a sense of it, but considering the location and the importance of art nowadays, I would encourage the museum adm to develop an app or something useful for foreigners

This is a relatively new museum in the port regeneration area, on Praca Maua. Once the renovation on the square is complete in time for the Olympics it will be spectacular. For now, it is still great, and the view from the roof terrace give a good look onto the progress of the Museu of Tomorrow and round about. Definitely worth it for the views. It costs 12 reais to get in, free on Tuesday, and in typical Brazilian style has no late night opening, its only open 10-5 and closed on Mondays. The exhibitions change, and the best when I visited was on the top floow, about the insalubrious history of the area, and the inheritance from slavery. The floor below was an exhibition of a Brazilian painter Guignard, and the influence of japanese and chinese aesthetics on his work. The floor below was dedicated to the men of the North East, a pecualiar incohesive exhibition with some great homoerotic imagery, but overall rather disappointing, and the exhibition on the lowest level on education and schools was pretty dire. All commentaries and explanations are in English and Portuguese, though the language is often pompous and occasionally verging on the meaningless and absurd. Nonetheless it is welcome that foreign visitors are given such good access to the collection. Nice looking cafe on the ground floor, though did not try it out.

Nice place to visit when in the area, but not to be visited on a Tuesday when tickets are free and the school children are there.
The place is excellent and well kept. The exhibition is good but not the best around. The story of Brazil and it's people really opened my eyes and understand the true history behind the country.
Worth a visit to know the true story of Brazil

we went on a Tuesday and entrance was free. The line was acceptable as everyone was at " Museu do Amanha". Well it is an option to see something different. Collections are of samba, politics, modern art. Inspiring

In front of Amanhã Museum. It’s not that good, but I would go anyway.
I had the chance to see the Samba exhibition and it was very good indeed!
The rooftop is totally worth it too.

I’m giving three stars because I came specifically for what looked like a beautiful Samba exhibit but it was all in Portuguese. No Spanish and no English. Couldn’t find any kind of booklet that might explain the exhibition in English either. The other main exhibit on the artist Tunga offered English explanations so not sure why, but pretty disappointing.

The museum was fairly recently inaugurated as a part of the intense works for renewal of the port area - and what a great addition to that area! There were four temporary exhibits when I visited it, two of which were very good: one about the history and influence of Africans in Brazil ("Do Valongo à Favela"), which also tells of the story of the port area itself, and one about education. Don't miss out on beautiful artwork on the ground floor and on the restaurant (and observation deck) on the 6th floor.

Nice architecture combining old and new... Must see the view from 6th floor. Lots to see in three different exibitions. Difficult to park. Ticket office very slow and need more positions. The shop is nice.

No último domingo do mês, o MAR tb observa entrada gratuita.
