Address
Neighborhood: Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.

Food - we didn't eat
Cleanliness - 4
Staff - self service
Location - 4
Other positives - this is a unique place to say the least. It's basically a shop and you help yourself to drinks. The guy who owns it is a character, seems annoyed you're there but welcoming at the same time. The locals made us feel very welcome. Definitely go there
Other negatives - none
Value for money/Overall rating - 5
Would I go again? Yes!

A charming spot for live music in Rio; just behind Copacabana's promenade Avenida Atlantica. We have been there for two succesive nights when Choro style jam sessions took place. You only pay for the drinks and have to be quite when music is played. The charming and wise owner sets the right atmosphere for skilled musicians attending the jam session. Recommended !

Made a point of scheduling Bip Bip during our week stay in Rio. Made it during the middle of the week, around 9:45 after dinner at a nearby restaurant.
Was great to just kick back in the sidewalk, or on seats at the outdoor table, once some opened up and just take in the music.
The interior is pretty much the size of a very large closet, with a bevvy of musicians - 3 on percussion, 3 alternating on flute, and at rotation of 5 guitarists on the night we went - gathered around the inside table.
You have to sidle your way to the back to grab your beer from the coolers, bring them back to the front, and give the owner your name. Future rounds you just show him as you exit... you close out your tab at the end of the night. 5r per beer (just Brahma or Antarctica) makes this a fairly inexpensive outing.
As new musicians arrived, others rotated out and mingled with the onlookers.
Cheap beer and great music make for a great evening.
Also, really want to reiterate the point, if you want to talk/chat, back off to the fringe of the assembled crowd. On several instances the owner, already a little gruff, got up and excitedly admonished those whose conversations exceeded "inside voices". People are there for the music, respect that first.

We turned up after a meal for a nice drink. The owner was nothing short of appalling. He was rude and made us feel completely unwelcome even though we had only come for a drink.
He kept pointing at us and in the end we left, what an unfriendly man.

Went to Rio in April 2016 with my entire family. Tried to find Bip Bip one night because my dad and son both play guitar but there was nothing where Bip Bip was meant to be, we were using the GPS on our phones too.

Extremely unique little setup tucked away inside an avenue at Copacabana, people don't really go there for the "bar" experience. Its solely for music enthusiasts who love Brazilian music either Bossa Nova, Samba or good 'ol Brazilian Folk. There is no seating arrangement as such, fans gather around the place, with or without a beer and applaud by clicking their fingers instead of clapping hands. Its delightful to watch pure Brazilian talent jam and mingle at no cost!

This is a true Brazilian boteco, Local musicians play a mix of samba and bossa nova, the music and atmosphere is amazing but the bar is all about the music, respect the music and the musicians, you don't yell or talk loudly you go here for the music if you want to party get drunk and yell and scream there are plenty of places in rio to do that but its not here. Amazing music and people here one of my best experiences in RIO. Parking along Ipanema beach $2 reals from a council parking man and anywhere from $2-$80+ from a local. Its a small bar looks like a shed from the street and people normally gather on the street outside music is played inside, help yourself to a beer and pay before you leave beer in the fridge and cups on the shelf make yourself at home and enjoy the music. Music starts after 8pm more like 9/10pm.

Go to Bip Bip to hear some great bossa nova, choro and samba. Musicians come and go, and the music continues. The place is minute, but the musicians, playing there are great. Make sure you stay there to hear Alfredinho give a speech about the current state of Brazilian politics or some of the social programs he and the patrons of Bip Bip are running. In December, he feeds almost 700 homeless people on Christmas day. Bip Bip bankrolls the project, but contributions from patrons are welcomed. Some rules: No clapping (not to disturb neighbors) - snap your fingers instead! Standing room only on the footpath. No loud talking while the musicians play. Drinks are self service. You leave your name and pay when you are ready to leave. Trust system works just fine here. Hungry? Go and fry some finger food yourself! Just remember to tell Alfredinho what you had. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!!!

This is literally a hole in the wall but my wife and I enjoyed one of the most memorable musical experiences in outer lives here (and we're both musicians!). A city street, a bunch of old Brazilians sitting around a table, local musicians filter in, sit down and begin to jam - like a way cooler version of a pick-up Nova Scotian kitchen party. You grab your own drinks out of the fridge and pay the funny old geezer at the front. There are tables and chairs you can pull out into the street and sit to listen, but most people just stand, listen and inevitably start smooching. Cool, romantic, and utterly unique. Do it.

great ambience with local musicians playing in a little hole in the wall. The owner keeps a paper log of the drinks, you serve yourself, honor system. A must if you just want to chill and enjoy music.
