We turned up after a meal for a nice drink. The owner was nothing short of appalling. He was rude and made us feel completely unwelcome even though we had only come for a drink.
He kept pointing at us and in the end we...More
This place is pure Rio spirit. Professionals, semi professional and local musicians and singers get together in the tiniest of bars for Bossa Nova and other latin rhythms. Get drinks from the back of the bar and pay at the end on a tab run...More
Food - we didn't eat
Cleanliness - 4
Staff - self service
Location - 4
Other positives - this is a unique place to say the least. It's basically a shop and you help yourself to drinks. The guy who owns it is a character,...More
This is a true Brazilian boteco, Local musicians play a mix of samba and bossa nova, the music and atmosphere is amazing but the bar is all about the music, respect the music and the musicians, you don't yell or talk loudly you go here...More
Go to Bip Bip to hear some great bossa nova, choro and samba. Musicians come and go, and the music continues. The place is minute, but the musicians, playing there are great. Make sure you stay there to hear Alfredinho give a speech about the...More
Went to Rio in April 2016 with my entire family. Tried to find Bip Bip one night because my dad and son both play guitar but there was nothing where Bip Bip was meant to be, we were using the GPS on our phones too.
Turned up on a Sunday evening and could not sit on street. Apparently a local licence issue. Group of musicians jamming. Music was initially rubbish until a musician left. Then some other ones drifted in and it became lively and good. Drinks are taken from...More
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful
draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.

Musical Tour of Rio (2 Replies)
Hi there, I'm heading to Rio at the ned of the month and want to soak up as much samba, MPB and forro as possible, without breaking the bank. This is my lineup of clubs for the week. Please advise if this looks like a good sampling of local music. One thing missing from this list is what I'd call--for lack of a Brazilian equivalent-- "indie rock," or new experimental music. Are there clubs that specialize in that type of thing in Rio? Also are there any places besides the Vinicius...More

Thanks Gabriela! This was very helpful. The website about the Lapa music is terrific. My girlfriend and I will be in Rio from May 23 through June 1. She actually lived in Rio for a year when she was a kid but doesn't remember much Portuguese, unfortunately >:-( Anyway, we'll definitely be going to hear a lot of music that week. Would be great to meet up. I'll give you a heads up and let you know what we're planning. obrigado, Matt
