This is an excellent place to listen to live samba music. There are not many tourists around. It's very authentic. The appetizers are very good, the staff friendly and the music is just great. After a few minutes everyone starts to dance in the bar and the atmosphere is lovely. This was one of my favourite experiences during my stay in Rio. Trapiche Gamboa is located north of centro and you have to take a cab to get there as there are no buses running apparently.

With a very interesting decor, this is the place for authentic Brazilian music. Unknown to many tourists, the artists who perform there are carefully chosen: quality standards are very high. I recommend a visit to this restaurant/bar in the evening, but make sure it will be open. The only con is that it's located off-Lapa, in a "bairro" currently reachable by cab only (port area), but it's worth the ride. The port area is being renovated and I'm sure Trapiche will become even more popular.

This reminds me of sitting around at a friends house (in Brazil) when someone breaks out the musical instruments. Very authentic, true samba, in a casual atmosphere. The appetizers and drinks were good, the crowd enjoyable, a few of the gringo's stood-out a little, and enjoyed themselves along with the locals. Very interesting architecture, a historic building, with some history on the cover of the menu. This was a very enjoyable evening out.

We were taken there by Brazilian friends who heard about it from a friend of theirs who lives in Rio. We would not have stayed in the area after dark without the local knowledge, because it looked quite earthy. We travelled to and from our hotel by taxi, and once our friends negotiated a table, we had a fantastic couple of hours there. The band was excellent and there was good food and drink. The atmosphere was very, very relaxed, with mainly full of local people, in couples or groups. Highly recommended.

This interesting historic building hosts fantastic live music accompanied by delicious food (shrimps with cheese sauce; yum!) and drinks. Waitresses can help you learn the basic Samba dance step but you'll be amazed at how difficult it is to make it look easy.. Get practising!

several floors overlooking the scene where musicians play wonderful roda de samba and where people of all ages dance until late night. They also serve food and drinks, which is k but it is not for the food that you come here!

Brought here by a local relative, I was enchanted by both the music and fellow attendees. I would have never known of this place if it was not for the invite by a local. There were at least two other birthday celebrations going on, one of which for a birthday girl who travels from Italy every year to celebrate her birthday at this venue with her friends!

I discovered the place in 2018 and now returning to the address, it is a deserted and dangerous place.

I don't know what happened because social media is still active
