From our apartment it was 400 meters to the Ipanema beach. Fantastic! Hope to visit soon again. We felt safe and relaxed on the beach

Ipanema beach is beautiful! The water changes quite drastically from season to season in terms of temperature and clarity. Very warm summer days will often mean caribbean waters around arpoador, no waves and warmish waters. Water temperatures in the southeast of Brazil are chilly even when locals say it is a warm day, if compared to the northeast of Brazil... More

Beautiful, charming and very busy. Plenty to see and do as you stroll around. Many vendors and concessioner to buy snacks and souvenirs.

Not as highly sought after as other beaches in this area but this one holds its own. Very clean, and had a lot less people. More of the locals hang out here. It has a wonderful view and the water was warm.

Though it was "winter" when we visited, the beach was crowded and weather was in the low 80s. Don't know that I would enjoy have enjoyed it, had it been hotter and more crowded. We were concerned about pollution so did not bathe there. Beach appeared well maintained, with no trash scattered about.

We were there on a dank cold for Rio weather day but the beach is just spectacular and you can see why people rave over it. miles of golden sand with the waves crashing in and when we were there not many people on it. Just a lovely walk.

We spent unforgetable time walking, jogging, doing exercise along the coastline and laying on the beach. Drink some caipirinha and sweet coco and youll feel as if you were in paradise. Believe me!

Fantastic beach clean sand and water. Got to know the locals at post 9! I strongly advise not to wear any jewellery to the beach and don't bring your mobile phone.. A lot of thieves operate here but if u have nothing to rob they won't bother with u.. Lots of good food and drink available all day I love... More

Staying in Ipanema

Neighborhood Profile
Ipanema
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.
