It is beautiful, in fact. But the sewage which is deposited directly onto the beach makes it impossible to come close. It was the place to be in the 1980's, though. One can only wonder why we Brazilians ---- up beautiful places like this.

Stayed in Brazil for a just over a week. We were meant to stay for 3 weeks, but due to poor quality workmanship and management we had to come home early. We will not want to come back here ever due to the awful memories. Kind regards. England Football Team.

Here, on the bottom of Pedra Bonita is the office of the biggest paragliding school in the world: Clube Sao Conrado de voo Livre. They have 100 instructors and each instructor is only allowed 4 flights a day. They take you up to the top of the mountain and off you go. Fabulous. If you never tried paragliding before, this... Its a little far to travel to this beach, but its really great! not crowded. well at least when we went midweek, it was a pure pleasure. I think there were like maximum 20 people. We watched the paragliding and parachutes landing at the end of the beach, it was very beautiful. And the water is very clear and beautiful.... More

This beach is among the most beautiful of the city. I've lived in Rio for more than 20 years and this beach has always impressed me. On each sde you find a rocky granite hill that goes until the sea. On the east, Dois Irmãos Hill. On the west, Pedra da Gávea, which dominates the landscape. The west part of... More

This is a much more calm place to come and hang out if you want to relax and watch the sun set and take in the beauty that is Rio de Janeiro.

São Conrado is a small beach neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro, just 15 minutes away by car from Ipanema. To its immediate north lies Rocinha, Latin America's largest favela community. To its south, the amazing and bizarre double highway road, Elevado do Joa. Overhead fly vast numbers of hang gliders and para gliders, who use the spot as a gathering... More

It breaks my heart to write this, but Sao Conrado, a beach that should be five stars, is in terrible condition these days. The reason? Horrific pollution due to the close proximity of the shanytown Rocinha. Whenever it rains, raw pollution goes straight into the ocean, staining the sand a horrible black colour. It is a terrible shame. This beach... More
