Could be because it was Brazilian winter, but the garden wasnt that interesting. But its only 10 R$, so okay for an afternoon with nothing else to do. Inside the garden you have a great view on Christ the Redeemer on the mountain between palm trees.

Worth spending a couple of hours here if you are in Rio. I'm not really a plant/flower person but did enjoy my visit. Just watch out for the thieving monkeys - literally (see pics)!

We're glad we went here but probably wouldn't go again. Some large trees from the Amazon, a few small lakes and waterfalls. Albert Einstein visited here (long before us)

There's nothing too exotic in the garden but the feeling is very nice. It's a good escape in the city and you do see a couple of nice birds here and there. the massive trees are fascinating. I spent some time just staring at them and admiring them. The lake is nice too, and if you're a fan of cactus... More

I have spent 2 hours in the Botanical Garden to escape the hectic in the City. It is very quiet and in some areas there is good view of the Corcovado when the weather is nice. There are not many flowers but different tree types. I think the Garden is not a must for visitors but good if your are... More

A nice visit to the gardens on a day during the Olympics where we needed to have a quiet day. It was beautiful strolling around the gardens which are well maintained and very pretty. They had run out of English maps and we couldn't follow the Portuguese one so we don't know what we missed, and the signs weren't the... More

Whilst beautifully laid out the paper map of the gardens is sought from the Visitors centre which is outside the gardens entry point and from what I could gather not accessible from the Gardens themselves, so I couldn't go back and get one without reentering the gardens. My Portuguese is limited so I couldn't explain to the staff what I... More

The shady Jardim Botanico founded in1808 by the Prince Regent Joao and opened to the public in 1889 is a wonderful peaceful oasis in the midst of busy Rio. Open from 8am-5pm Tuesday to Sunday and noon-5 on Mondays, best time to visit to see birds and marmosets is early in the mornings on weekdays when there are fewer visitors.... More
