- Francisco de AssisSalvador, BA255 contributionsMore than beautifulAn historical place where Brazilian Royal family - Orleans e Bragança - did one of its best. There are many plants, of all sizes and from all habitats, I prefer those carnivorous (insectivorous) ones. You must be there to see yourselves how beautiful they are. Your children will love spending a day there on a picnic! A place for relaxing and appreciating NatureVisited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 1, 2023
- JudithBristol, United Kingdom99 contributionsBeautiful Jardim BotânicoI really enjoyed my time in the Jardim Botânico, as a solo traveler I can say I felt comfortable, staff is welcoming and accommodating, everyone is working so hard to keep this place as beautiful as it is. Please take your time to take in all the flora and fauna, it is a delight, another traveler recommended it, and I am glad I took the morning to explore it. The staff in the cafeteria is very friendly as well. I was so happy to see the monkeys, and the meliponario, where they have the bees. I recommend this place on a sunny day.Visited January 2024Traveled soloWritten January 29, 2024
- ANTONIO GILBERTO CARVALHORio de Janeiro, RJ60 contributionsFantastic ExperieceWe came to visit this parque that was created in 1808 by the Prince of Portugal D. John. During all this time until today different plant species have been collected and planted in the "Plant Zoo". When you come in to pay ask for Paula Beatriz, sweet lady that will help you. Have funVisited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 5, 2024
- RSTWToronto, Canada44 contributionsBeautiful and peaceful place.Really enjoyed escaping the crowds of Rio for this oasis. The Atlantic rain forest walk was my favorite. Amazing tropical plants and nice orchid greenhouse and cactus garden. If you like gardens and are interested in plants, you will love it. If not you might find it a little boring.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 21, 2024
- Kim WOrlando, Florida108 contributionsBeautifulWe rented the 30 minute tour with golf cart and tour guide and it was fabulous! I would recommend doing that then if you wanted to take more time to just walk leisurely around you could do that. We were on a time crunch so we chose to do the quick visit and loved it! Our guide was great too. Truly Beautiful.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 24, 2024
- Rachel G60 contributionsOur favorite part of RioSo glad we went here on our trip! There were times when it was hard to believe we were in such a big city! There was a lot to explore here and some fun benches to sit on so you can really take your time here. My husband and I both agreed that it was our favorite thing we did in Rio! We went in the middle of the day (it was a heatwave) and it wasn't too busy. Walked from Ipanema and then ubered to Christ the Redeemer after. Was really lovely.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 30, 2024
- wiseoldowlReykjavik, Iceland1,478 contributionsGreat afternoon outGreat day out. Lovely gardens, shady and well planned. Excellent to walk to. Cheap to get to from Copacabana by Uber. 30 Brazilian. Monkeys, parrots, birds, insects, cactuses and orchids. Humming birds and giant Lilypads. Would definitely recommend and half price for over 60’sVisited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 29, 2024
- CheshireChat10 contributionsRelaxing few hoursLovely gardens. Pleasant walks and some interesting fauna and flora. Well worth a visit if you have half a day to spare. Plenty of weird and wonderful plants, many of which those from cooler climates will recognise as cultivated house plants, Make sure you take cash - cards not accepted and its around ÂŁ12/$15 pp to enter.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 10, 2024
- Camila KörbesBelo Horizonte, MG21 contributionsExcellent experienceI first participated in a guided tour at the museum (in front of the garden). It was worth it because I was able to learn about important historical facts about the garden. After the guided tour at the museum, I went to see the garden. It is an excellent place to relax with the biodiversity that exists in this place. In addition to the beautiful gardens, I was able to see very different birds, including toucans. I was positively surprised by everything I saw here. I highly recommend it!Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten June 2, 2024

Special mention for the giant lily pads. Cash only at the entrance we used.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 3, 2024

I really enjoyed just walking around the gardens and taking photos. I had to sign in as a photographer to use my camera equipment but that was fine, there was no hassle and no additional charge.
The waterfall area is great for practicing long exposure shots if that's what you are into. It's also nice to just relax.
Walking down under the huge palm trees was pretty neat. It was just a quiet spot.
Like most things in Rio it wasn't anything special but it also was a good value for the admission price. It was also one of the cleanest areas in the city that I had a chance to visit and the staff speak English which to me is showing they want to encourage tourism.
I recommend the Botanical Garden for families with small kids as it is stroller accessible. It is also a good spot for the older crowds (55+) who are looking for some peace and quiet.

Very walkable botantical gardens, it is not huge like Kew gardens. The friendly staff gave me two leaflets one was the visitor's guide which had a suggested trail you could following which covered most of the gardens and the second leaflet "history trail" contained a lot of background history on the foundation of the gardens and significant points. Personal highlights were the orchid greenhouse with a beautiful variety of orchids, the lake and the lovely views of Corcovado. Toilets and drinking fountains dotted throughout and a rather expensive cafe if you want something to eat. Felt perfectly safe except beware of falling branches.

Stunning place to visit, if you know what to expect.
The tickets for foreigners cost more than for the locals, and you can only pay cash. If you are ok with that, go and enjoy this absolutely stunning park.
Make it your own journey, we walked it through without a guide or without any organised groups and we absolutely loved it.
We saw many examples of fauna and flora as well as enjoyed amazing views.
We visited the gardens just after a big rain and the air smelled wonderful.
One of the best things to do in Rio.

My family and I absolutely loved our trip to Cairns. The Botanic Garden is so beautiful, the locals said it is dry for this time of the year. The Centenary Lakes is such a nice setting, just wish we had a bike to explore it all. The Friendship Chinese garden is so Zen. The kid's playground is really good for old and young to play. It is very hot so best to do this trip early in the morning. If it's not so hot, we would have liked to hike up the Red arrow, Blue arrow and Green arrow would be really good to do.

Inside a city of 7 million, this huge expanse offers a quiet place to get away from everything and appreciate nature. Well maintained wide paths, clean, safe. Reptiles, birds, flowers, something for everyone--and reasonable admission at BRL 15 or less.

Would highly recommend the gardens. It was a delightful and cool way to spend a day due to the many shaded trees. We loved the orchid and cactus sections and the garden restaurant served delicious filet mignon with a hearty salad.

Rio is an incredibly green city with a forest in the city and parks everywhere but the Botanical Gardens are particularly peaceful and gorgeous. Loved the lily pads and the row of palm trees. Many beautiful spots.

Beautiful botanical garden in the city with great backdrops for photography. Some good spots for photos include, Aleia Barbosa Rodrigues from Aleia Candido Baptista, and Lago e Caomoro Fre Leandro facing towards the rolling hills in the background. I would suggest entering through Portao 920 as it's less busy from this entrance compared t the main entrance at Portao 1008.

Really nice botanical garden. There's a lot of different things to see like monkeys and beautiful birds. They have a lot of orchids as well. The entrance price of 15 real is cheap half price if you're over 60 (bring proof)

Bom passeio !
