Nice museum

It's a nice museum. You can find a different collections there. Also, it's inside "Quinta da Boa Vista" where you can enjoy other activities.

The museum covered a wide variety of topics which seemed a bit random, but still enjoyable. Most of the information around is in Portuguese, as they have an online page available where it can give you information in English. However, the website/wifi wasn't working very well, so I ended up just walking around and looking at the artefacts without reading... More

We arrived at lunchtime, so asked if there was a café. We were directed around the back to the staff canteen where they happily served us lunch! We then had a wander around the museum (warning, they only take cash for tickets, no cards) and found a random mix of meteors, dinosaurs, taxidermy and world and Brazilian history. Most of... More

This place is an undiscovered gem in Rio. It has so much information on a wide variety of topics, including dinosaurs and other extinct species, the history of Brazilian monarchs, animals, palaeontology, the history of the world, space and the universe, and a massive set of exhibits dedicated to native Brazilians. All of the information is in Portuguese so it's... More

With the Olympics coming up, the buiding, the organization and the collection is in need of some serious love. The place is literally falling apart, with yellow tape to prevent using the marble bannisters. The collection is interesting--some of my favorites in the photos but many, many canvasses need restoration/cleaning. If there was a cafe or museum shop, it was... More

The museum itself has an impressive collection but is a little disorganized. The most interesting thing is the building itself (once a residence of the Portuguese royal family after the seat of government was removed from Lisbon to Rio).

This museum is located at a beautiful very important 200 yo building that belonged to the Brazilian monarchy and has an incredible collection with itens over 4 thousand years old. Too bad they are poorly exposed, with little or no information. I understand the museum has been maintained and organised by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, but it... More

it's a long walk before you can reach there from the station. Fortunately we passed through the garden which has canopy and we can stay away from the sunshine. There are no tour offer in the museum and only Portuguese explanation showing on the exhibits.

We went to Quinta da Boa Vista because we wanted to see this museum, it was totally worth it! It has a great natural collection (from butterflies to dinosaurs!) plus other collections like the egyptian one which was impressive to find there.

Expected to see something bigger, but not too disappointed. Unfortunately dint know portugese so could not follow anything, it had few mummies, dinosaur skeletons, meteors, things from Amazonian tribes etc which was interesting to see. U can cover the whole in 1 hour.
