Had to walk miles to get anywhere. The buildings are architecturally interesting but the vast concrete space between the buildings was devoid of any vegetation or shade and very boring and tiring to walk along. Why do they make these Olympic Parks so vast and unfriendly?????

Situated after Praia de Tijuca and just before Prainha and Grumari you find Recreio dos Bandeirantes Beach. A good place for avoiding the crowds and the vendors. It's a clean beach with good waves but remember to swim in the safe areas of the beach, because of the riptide, ask the locals where it's safe.

This was one of our favourite spots in Rio! very few tourists, a few vendors but you arent bothered by them...if you are energetic, wait until the sandbar is exposed and go over to the island/mountain and hike up/repell down!

Get all the beach-y goodness of Rio without the tourist crowds. Clean, blue waves are ridden by locals on surf and skim boards. The sand is clean and soft and the boardwalk bars keep you hydrated and full. NOTE: watch out for the red flags. The riptide is real so go further down the beach if you need to swim... More

Took a long walk along the beach during my first day in Rio. A much more relaxed, family-friendly vibe than at the better known beaches. Many places to stop for food and/or drink, some with bands.

A neighborhood in the Rio de Janeiro, where it seems that you are not in a city as large and busy as the River. Beautiful beaches , great restaurants and bars and very quiet . Great for staying with family without having to put up with the turmoil and violence of Copacabana. Here you walk quiet on the beachfront .... More

Because I'm a Brazilian... may be too long for me to say all the best about Recreio... I"ll resume saying that I have traveled to many of the most beautiful beaches in diferents parts of the world like Hawaii, Mexico, Bahamas, Republic Dominican. But I like to say for the ones who never leave Brazil... that we have our own... More

Recreio beach Is about 50mins away from the crowded beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana. Its an excellent surf spot and the reason I went there. Its a beautiful beach without the crowds and tourists

I keep going back to Recreio. If you're going to Rio, you mst visit this beach. It is close to Pontal rock and the Ahui.
