Since the Olomouc games the area has changed a lot, but still a good place if you want peace, there a lot people surfing and few tourists.

Grumari beach is a small pearl from all beaches in Rio de janeiro. Its location is just outside of the Rio de Janeiro city limits. Acces is by taxi or car. At the beach you'll find a selection of small restaurants and bars that offers a variety of Brazilian dishes and refreshments. As the beach is outside of the city... More

It's amazing you can find such a calm beach (waves are wild, though) so close to such a large city. Go for a peaceful day and take what you can (like water and food) as there's very limited infrastructure. After the beach, when returning stop at Prainha and order a grilled catch of the day or whatever fish they recommend.... More

This was a very pretty beach that was actively enjoyed by locals. No English spoken here; and we spoke no Portuguese. This did not pose a problem since a gracious smile and polite behavior was always rewarded with a warm response. Unless you want to be among the pretty hot hotties at the beaches in Leblon and Impanema, this is... More

A Brazilian friend took us to this beach, on the outskirts of Rio. It was an 1,5 hour ride from Copacabana, but it was well worth it. The beach is part of a reserve, very quiet and clean. Great place for families as well to spend a day. Do bring some food and drinks and lot's of sun block

It's a lovely drive through the Florida-like Barra to get to Grumari, a tranquil heaven. A surfer's paradise too. Well worth a trip out if you're in Rio for more than a few days.

Perfect local attraction, always west zone is the best, little paradise in Rio. Besides marsh vegetation grows next to the beach and a rain forest surrounds its hills are picture perfect. tho what I found out was Abricó beach which is next to Grumari is so so awesome . What I love about it is nude beach!!!!Amazing, relatively secluded beach!!!... More

Far away from the main known beaches in Rio, Grumari is located after "Prainha" beach and is a place to go if you want to have a deeper conexion with nature and still be close to the city. Favored by surfers, the beach is also good for swimmers who like to play on the waves. PS: On weekends it may... More

A little far away but worth spending the whole day (except on sunny weekends, when it is crowded). One may choose one extreme or another for eating well - different styles, the second, at the end after Recreio and Prainhas - more popular. Good place to go with firends. Rent a car and get there early (before 10 AM, if... More
