This nice beach stay around 1 hour and half from Ipanema. The place are super but always prefered by surfers. Don´t go there alone and a cab it will cust you too much;

Go early (arrive before 8am) and spend the whole day there. There is no public transportation so you should have your own car and there aren't many parking spaces.

Everyone must visit and stay in this fantastic beach. Tourists can find a paradise with the sea and the mountains around.

Great beach to go to... bring water and all the essentials. Mind burglars after 4pm. Beach most preferred by the locals, cariocas, although not visited by them frequently because of the distance. Nonetheless you may find it not crowded but filled with regulars. Recommend eating at Tia Penha afterwards...

I loved this beach. It had a great vibe and felt as if we were in Hawaii. Because it is so low key and a little of the beaten path we had to pay for our taxi driver to stay and wait for a couple of hours as this is not a place that you can get one back. But... More

If you are looking for some peace in a different place from the very touristic Copacabana or Ipanema, you should go to Grumari and experience the real carioca lifestyle!

Cariocas like me (people born in Rio de Janeiro city) do not like to talk too much about Grumari. It's our beach to really take a rest and relax. You have the sea, sand, mountains and vegetations, plus some simple kiosks with nice appetizers and cold beer. You can spend all day there. You will do it and it'll be... More

I loved immediately Grumari. Something really different from the other more famous beaches like Copacabana or Ipanema. Still wild and far from the chaos of the city. Bad point is that you need a car to go them (or by taxi). Suggestion is to go during working days.

The calm away from the city + the best and cheapest acai ever! (for 4 real you have a delicious acai cream topped with everything: granola, hazelnut, coco powder and syrup of your choice).
