The beach is surrounded by cliffs, and is located in the "Grumari" reserve where the "Atlantic Forest" is still well preserved, makes this beach unique for its beauty. The public is mostly composed of young surfers and backpackers who love nature.

Wild beach and surrounded by Atlantic Forest. Transparent water and light waves. Little structure for food and drinks. The nature is gorgeous!

This is great for enjoy the beach, have some caipirinhas and surf. Just be careful because sometimes the waves are too strong.

One of my favorite beaches in Rio, with the cleanest water to swim, and just amazing sights! Try to stop in Prainha and Macuba beaches too before you hit Grumari. They are really incredible.

Since the Olomouc games the area has changed a lot, but still a good place if you want peace, there a lot people surfing and few tourists.

Grumari beach is a small pearl from all beaches in Rio de janeiro. Its location is just outside of the Rio de Janeiro city limits. Acces is by taxi or car. At the beach you'll find a selection of small restaurants and bars that offers a variety of Brazilian dishes and refreshments. As the beach is outside of the city... More

It's amazing you can find such a calm beach (waves are wild, though) so close to such a large city. Go for a peaceful day and take what you can (like water and food) as there's very limited infrastructure. After the beach, when returning stop at Prainha and order a grilled catch of the day or whatever fish they recommend.... More

This was a very pretty beach that was actively enjoyed by locals. No English spoken here; and we spoke no Portuguese. This did not pose a problem since a gracious smile and polite behavior was always rewarded with a warm response. Unless you want to be among the pretty hot hotties at the beaches in Leblon and Impanema, this is... More

A Brazilian friend took us to this beach, on the outskirts of Rio. It was an 1,5 hour ride from Copacabana, but it was well worth it. The beach is part of a reserve, very quiet and clean. Great place for families as well to spend a day. Do bring some food and drinks and lot's of sun block
