1,084 reviews
This full-day tour of Rio de Janeiro with convenient hotel pickup is a popular choice for visitors with limited time in the area. Going with a guide means you hit all the city’s highlights without the stress of navigating and hear important context about landmarks along the route, including the Christ the Redeemer statue, Sugarloaf Mountain, and the Selarón Steps. Round out the tour with a well-deserved Brazilian-style lunch.

The Planetario of Rio is a great place to come with kids 3-12. It also offers star observations during the night for free and it has a great selection of films and educational programs. During the summer and winter they also host camps inside the place.

There is an exhibition on many planets, galaxies and astronomy, the place needs maintance. With lots of bottoms to push on and many colorful lights, the visit may benefit from some guided explanations. The staff is formed in majority by unmotivated public agents that work for their wages than the passion for astronomy. Even I can speak flawless Portuguese, they barely give a correct or accurate information. The ground floor is more interesting, with many historical and scientific information of astronomy. Also there is a simulator of aircraft on the left side of the floor. The second floor and the third floor you can just take some pictures and pass on rapidly. Free parking lot, lazy and slow employees, tickets required for visiting the place. Would not recommend to older teenagers. No coffee, food or drink available to sell nearby. I heard that there will have presentation of history of the Universe in the auditorium, but I'd rather prefer to go to next attraction. Quite boring for adults if you are not fan of Sci Fi.

We went on a Sunday and didn't have to pay for a ticket to see the exhibit (ground floor and first floor plus a temporary "green" fair on the third one). The exhibits were well prepared but we could tell it's been a while since it had any maintenance, several of the interactive parts did not work properly. My main concern was the lack of lighting, the ground level exhibit was so dark we couldn't read most of the information. The planetarium itself is big and well preserved, it has so much potential!

Although with a high potential, the attractions are poor, far from exciting and the infrastructure is not that good (a few parking lots, for example).

Called in on the spur of the moment as we were in the area and had a few hours to wait before the botanical gardens opened. Entry was only $R12 each, although when we enteted the place was empty and we wandered around alone unable to read the information on each exhibit. I guess it would be more suited to children.
