Our favorite meeting point was near MacDo and cinema ;) Its the biggest mall in South America, and it's just great: good quality and good level. I love the boutiques, and the collections there (in world-known brands like C&A, Zara etc) are different from, for example, those ones we have in Russia or in Europe. The cinema there is nice but super cold inside, we spent there some time with our friends watching my favorite movie Malavita (Familia).
I really recommend you to check it out, nice place to have some fun and do some shopping!

We got the 304 bus from Copacabana. Lots of shops and food outlets, all very middle class. Good way to spend a bad weather day, particularly if you get a bus that goes along the beach. Very hard to cross the road to get a bus back but we eventually found an underpass.

Quite a few high-end stores but there are budget-minded shops too. There was also an excellent French restaurant on the lower level.

If you're staying in Copacabana, this will be around a $25 cab ride there and back so it makes sense to shop at Leblon.

Its the biggest mall in South America and it has quite an American feel to it. Probably the best one out of the many malls in Barra. The stores are mostly small Brazilian labels which seem to mimic some US stores/labels, but there are a few american and european brands too. Plenty of surf stores and sporting goods as well as electronics, including a big FNAC.

There are multiple food courts and restaurants. The ones in the New York Centre part (adjoined "shopping center") seemed to be mostly generic steakhouses (Outback, Applebee's) and fast food, nothing very interesting, in my opinion no reason to go this part of the complex. The main Barra Shopping building had better options, including Zuka, which was one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in Rio - don't let the mall locaton fool you.

Taxis are easy to find at some of the entrances, there is a taxi post with employees at entrance C.

Big Mall. Sure you find there almost everything. I was looking for sport sandals but did not find any. People here only wear flip-flops. A lot of people and we did get tired after a while. If you like shopping this is a place to go.

I am a Buyer by profession and loved investigating shopping malls. I was in love with Barra shopping when I first arrived and went back many times during my stay in Brasil. The mall is huge and the variety of shops is great. I was living in Zona Sul so there was a bus at General Orsorio which went direct to Barra shopping. It is the blue bus and usually has a big line of people. It is on the road Visconje de Piraja. It was very easy to get to Barra shopping and very easy to get back to Ipanema. It's a very big shopping mall - I would definitely recommend taking some time to see and shop properly!

Enormous! Nice and clean, but expensive. Most of the shops are very small. Nice food courts. Don't think I'll go there again. We took a taxi från Copacabana. The taxi ride took about 40 min and cost approximately BRL 50.

Barra Shopping is located in the heart of Barra da Tijuca (one of the wealthiest areas in Rio) which reminds me of Orlando’s International Drive. It was established more than thirty years ago and has been renovated and went through some expansions several times. This is the place where you will have 18 movie theaters, bowling, two medical center, all the stores you are probably looking for (Adidas, Nike, Jewelry etc...) for all kinds of tastes. I recommend especially trying a cup of coffee at California Coffee (great quality - love the hazelnut espresso). You can also find megastores at this mall such as Fnac and Saraiva Mega Store. The best way to arrive is by taxi but if you are located in other neighborhoods you can take the subway, stop at Jardim Oceânico Station and get the BRT (the bus with an exclusive lane). If you enjoy healthy fresh food I also recommend Delírio Tropical Restaurant. After that just go to Browneria and enjoy their Paglia Italiana Brownie or go to Carolina Sales and try their delicious chocolate kisses. I know that desert hint doesn’t match healthy food but it is definitely the way to go. Hope you enjoy your visit.

Yeah, Barra Shopping is big, but it's pretty underwhelming. I made a day-trip from Zona Sul - you'll need a bit of time, because it's big. But was it worth it? Not really. Most of the stores can be found in Zona Sul, aside from Forever 21. It's really hard to navigate - there aren't many information points, and to be honest, I felt like I'd missed part of it, because I wasn't sure if the other buildings (business centre-type places) were meant to have stores as well. I probably won't go back, because it's an awfully long journey for not much reward!
