Top ways to experience Urca
The area
Neighborhood: Urca
Urca is one of the oldest areas in Rio. Known for its incredible views of the city, the neighbourhood runs along Guanabara bay, providing visitors with an opportunity to watch the sunset from one of Rio’s greatest natural treasures: Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar). It is said that the locals in Urca are “bon vivant,” which is one of the reasons the area attracts people of all styles and ages. Urca is the perfect place to take a stroll and appreciate the area’s beautiful architecture, enjoy a cocktail and some delicious seafood pastries at a bar, or bring a bottle of wine and enjoy it while sitting anywhere along the stone seawall known as the “mureta.”

This is one of my favorite populated areas in Rio. The mountain is a nice view and good value for the cable car ride up to the top and then over to Sugarloaf. The beach is very clean and small. There is a military base at the bottom of Mount Urca so it is about as safe as you can get. The hike up the mountain is pretty good and the shops and restaurants in the area are very friendly.

The beauty of Urca is fantastic. The neighborhood is charming, safe, welcoming and nice. A beautiful beach, a great sidewalk to walk, and the famous Mureta da Urca. Bars and restaurants to enjoy life. A part of the history of Rio de Janeiro is there, proven by the extinct Tupi TV building, which once was a casino. If I could, it would be one of the places I'd live in. It's worth walking around the neighborhood, no hurry.

Came here after checking out Sugar Loaf using cable car. It was about 10 min by Uber taxi but it was well worth it. We ended up ordering some seafood finger foods and beers from bar Urca and ended up having lunch by the sea under big trees lining the pier. View is awesome in all directions!

After visiting Sugarloaf talked husband in to dinner in Urca. Taxi was pleasant but most of what we passed was small neighborhood feel. Dinner overlooked small beach that seemed safe. Would recommend only if you like more quiet haunts.

Urca is a neighborhood, a rather expensive one to live in, which lies at the foot of the Pao de Acuca (cable car). It is one of Rio's safest neighborhoods as it has but one road to enter/leave by. There is a small beach, and there once was a Casino/Show House, but it has been closed for many years. Carmen Miranda sang there prior to WWII. The building is now supposedly being converted into a design school. I say supposedly because in Rio one never knows until a project is complete.

Urca is the best place for a bike ride in Rio. Althought car owners in Rio are nonsense and dont respect transit laws at all, Urca is by far the best place for a friendly and easy ride. I would suggest to finish the ride drinking a beer in the beach

We finished our day trip there and really like the quietness of this place. The area is really chill and beautiful with tons of character. We really liked the local shops and restaurants as well.

We loved it, peaceful break from the other beaches. The best part is walking the trail towards the morro de urca and pao de azucar.

Maybe one of the best places in Rio to take sunset pictures! It's also near theSugar Loaf and you can do both in the same day easily.
If you're going in a couple it can be romantic, but with friends you will be able to relax and have fun.
Don't be fooled, in weekends and holidays the place will be crowded, so be sure to be there not too late late so you'll be able to get a great place to watch nature's spectacle!

Urca is the small neighbourhood where everybody would like to live. Generally cited the safest area in Rio, because of the single access road and the military academies and bases.
It is home of one of the best sunsets in town, small hikes and - of course - the Sugarloaf mountain.
Well worth a visit - preferably on a bike.
