Neighborhood: Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.

The Lapa e Arte is an alternative souvenir shop strategically located at the foot of the famous Selaron Steps. Opposite the shop are a few of the most impressive street art murals of Rio. Adds to the attraction!

We stopped in here after bargaining with other street vendors for souveneirs and found everything else we were looking for. There are cool art pieces that are unique to the store and cachaca tastings that the store owner is very knowledgeable about. If only we had more room in our suitcase...

The staff here are great, full of jokes. Let you try the local drinks for free before you buy. Not pushy to buy anything and have amazing air con so after a long walk up the steps come in here to buy a souvenir and cool down!

What an awesome surprise, this unique and fun souvenir and Homemade Cachaca store it is! Being an American now living in Rio I've tasted alot of different Cachaca's and by far theirs have been the best offereing a myriad of flavors that would match anyones tastes You can't miss this opportunity to not only purchase but taste many of them! This family owned business treated us just like family and spoke perfect English and we'll be back! A 5 STAR SHOP FOR SURE!

Very helpful and conversational staff helped me find the perfect souvenirs I could for friends and family while in Rio!!! They speak English incredibly well, and were very nice!! Shop was well laid out and orderly. Will definitely visit again for gifts. It is SO close to the Lapa Steps as well. Take a peek if you go to see the steps... It'll be worth the visit!

We stumbled on this quaint souvenir shop after visiting the Selaron Steps. The staff speak English, and offered us samples of their homemade cachaca - banana, coffee, fruitcake and original. Soooo good, we bought a bottle of each, and coffee beans. Can't wait to try them at home.
When we asked him for the location of the nearest McDonalds so we could use the free internet to order an Uber, he generously offered us access to his WiFi. Don't miss this shop, just talking to him is worth the visit.

Stopped in here on a tour to be a sticker beak. Turned out to be a solid plan after talking to Luciana as we sampled some locally distilled Cachaca. Definitely ask for the samples as the 4 flavors were ranging though I am very pleased with the coffee. Stop by!

Very good little souvenir shop right next to the Selaron steps. They even have several varieties of homemade cachaca and some amazing different jam flavours. Got some spicy strawberry, was delightful. If you like hot sauce the one they have here is brilliant so highly recommended.
