We took Viator's day trip to Petropolis operated by Nattrip Ecoturismo e Aventura. It was a beautiful day going up to the mountains to enjoy the fresh air retreat that served as the home of the Emperors of Brazil in the early days. It has a German architecture in many places and had many beautiful homes of famous people. Our... More

We went to the Río Paralympicos 2016. We were in Rio 7 days. We booked tours with RIO MAXIMO based on other good reviews. Our tour guide was Priscilla. She was an excellent tour guide cannot say enough about her professionalism, charisma and all around Good Person. She speaks several languages. Her Spanish is impeccable as is her English. She... The historic center likes with European small cities. It is full of amazing buildings which each of them has a history. Also you have the opportunity to visit the factory of Bohemia beer and to be familiar with the production process. Unfortunately all the "tour" in the factory is in Portuguese.

For those who are not that familiar with Brazilian history, the center of Petrópolis offers you a magnificent opportunity to learn about the times of the Imperio. Built by a German arquitect around the Palace, it became the Summer quarters for the government and court, a cool place to escape Rio's heat. Well restored and maintained, it offers a nice... More

We ended up here almost by accident, but found the city to be, lovely, relaxed and quaint - not to mention full of history. The historical center has many beautiful buildings. However, most are closed on mondays. This includes most restaurants. The winding path up and down the mountain to get to the city was interesting.

There are old houses and churches, all set in this pleasant valley. One can roam around and find something nice on every corner.

Its a nice town and very different to Rio and most of the rest of Brazil. Interesting (if nor spectacular) old houses and architecture. By South American city standards it is very good but if it was in Europe it really wouldn't feature in any tour guide books. Worth a visit if you have the time.but don't fly here especially... More
