About
Located in the Historic Center, close to Matriz Square, Casa da Cultura is the main public cultural equipment of a city that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its objectives are both to preserve and enhance Paraty's cultural heritage, as well as to foster the creation, production and dissemination of all artistic manifestations in the city. Since 2013, it has been undergoing a revitalization: management is updated, resources are obtained through tax incentive laws, and what was a history of significant cultural activities, but not always with the desired continuity, becomes a permanent program of exhibitions , presentations and courses in arts, music, cinema and theater, all year round.

I stumbled upon this place and I was impressed to see it. It is one of the only old houses you can walk around, so upon entering, take notice of the old well-preserved floors, and the internal area with a house in the back. I liked the dolphin species expositions, pretty interesting and with real bones!

There are prettier buildings in town , but then there are also those that are much duller. Its a good starting point to walk the streets of this beautiful town but should not be regarded as the best that is on offer. Worth finding before you move on to much better gems

The house itself is well kept and very photogenic. From its window, you can also shoot some good photos. The content is alas not translated so it is mostly a visual experience. Would love to have been able to read more about Paraty.

The first day we tried to visit the centre was only open to students, the second day we were successful but the upstairs was closed so no view, and the exhibitions seemed to be in change-over. Literally nothing to see! The cafe looked nice.

Paraty itself is the reason to visit, but the cultural centre is worth looking in to see what art is on show. Closed on Mondays.

Since you will most likely be in centro histórico while in Paraty, this little stop is worth your time. They always have some exhibition going on, usually featuring local artist. Pretty view from upstairs. Small cafe that looks relaxing ( although I have never been ), and they often have some thing going on in the evenings and also offer a lot of classes. A unique place .

I like the fact that it mixed old tradition of Paraty like the Ciranda and the work of very contemporaneous artist. But I had the feeling that it is a work in progress and not yet in its final shape. Well worth the visit though and do not forget to drop a few Reais toward to encourage the municipality to keep this institution going.

Open in the evening, at least on a Friday when we visited. Lovely restoration and design of one of the classic Masonic homes. Very well presented exhibit about a local music/dance tradition. Cafe, courtyard and other rooms all very esthetically pleasing. Free, contributions requested.

This was a pleasant surprise in our visit to Paraty. The building itself is historic and full of character and old detail. There were some interesting exhibitions being held when we visited, showcasing local arts and culture
