The views from the top are magnificent and are worth the steep hike up to the top.
To get to the start of this hike you can take a boat from Paraty Mirim for 250 reais (return) which takes approx. 20 minutes each way. Make sure you got plenty of water with you as you will need it. The walk to the top will take you between 60 and 90 minutes depending on your fitness. It's best to wear proper shoes for this hike. I wouldn't do this walk after it has rained as it would make it very difficult to not slip. You can't really go wrong on your way up as the path is narrow but easy to follow. You walk in shade 90% of the time but there may not be a single breeze until you reach the very top. It's worth the sweat once you stand on the top and look down.

Get ready to surpass yourself! A 1.4km trail with an altitude of 425m and you reach the top, the view is stunning! I estimate average inclination > 25 degrees. There are points that reach 45 degrees!! It's worth every drop of sweat that you will certainly shed to overcome the trail, which is practically entirely covered by native vegetation and therefore without sunlight, which alleviates discomfort. Take water and something to eat, but don't leave trash on the way. The trail is super clean, just vegetation. We left the Paraty pier with Cassia's very fast boat (instagram rupenatrip) which I actually recommend.

the view is amazing, and the hike is very very nice. It feld a bit like a sort if hot yoga. Because the temerature is really high, u sweat like crazy. But it is only one hour hike. So nothing to crazy. some tuff stepps up, but nothing out of this world. A must do, when there.

To get her from Paraty, you need to get a bus to Paraty Mirim which will cost 5 Reals one way (or perhaps rent a car or take a cab which is a lot more expensive). The bus will take about 45 mins as it stops a lot along the way, and then goes through a dirt road to get to the beach.
At the beach you can hire a boat to take you to the beginning of the trek. This take about 15 minutes on the boat. You can try to negotiate but the price is around 100-150 Reals for a boat (not per person). The boat will take you there and wait for you until you return, to bring you back. So you pay at the end once you return to Paraty Mirim.
Your boat captain / driver will help point the start of the trek as it is slightly hidden if you do not know where to look. For the most part there is no signs apart from one sign about 100m in, at a fork, that tells you which way to continue. Then you have to follow the “path” based on looking at where it is clear others have been before. Going up, this is quite easy but steep. It took me about 45 minutes to get to the top.
It is lovely to sit at the top for a bit and enjoy the views.
The way down is quicker but easier to get a little lost at times which I managed to do but realised very quickly I had fallen off the path. So I backtracked and worked out the correct way.
One thing to be careful of is SNAKES. On my way down I came across a snake. I believe it was not poisonous at all, and it was a green colour from what I recall. I paused and made some noise and it slithered away.
Funny thing is that I encountered no other people when I was here, which was nice at times. I had also enquires with local tour companies who quotes ridiculous rates to bring me here. Better off just going by yourself and you will save yourself a lot of money. Be sure to get back to Paraty Mirim before the last bus - it is unclear when that may be but I took a bus back around 16.40. Enjoy!

As part of our 3-night stay in Paraty, I had decided to book us the top 3 attractions according to our good friends at TripAdvisor. This trek lived up to its status and reviews. I had emailed with Michael Smyth, partner/owner of Paraty Explorer, before leaving the U.S. to arrange the date of the hike, appropriate footwear, lunch options, and pay the deposit via PayPal. So great to correspond with Michael ahead of time. It was an even nicer surprise to have Michael as our guide up Mamangua Sugarloaf Peak for the day, as well as his Czech co-guide Miko (sp?). After a short car ride from our pousada, we took a bouncy, potholed bus trip to Paraty Mirim (aka Little Paraty) where gold was shipped to Portugal, and slaves were imported from Africa. Waldir, a local boat operator and fisherman, ferried us around the peninsula from Mirim to Mamangua Bay where we would start our hour-long trek up to the summit of Mamangua Peak. As a tourist side note, Michael pointed out where the crew of "Twilight", the teenage vampire series had recently rented out a house to do some filming.
After dropping some gear off at the local restaurant where we would have lunch, we started up. And up. And up. The native people didn't believe in switchbacks here, so a lot of the hike is going up natural stairs and ledges made by roots of trees in the remnants of the Atlantic rainforest. Michael paused every 10-15 minutes to let us out of shape folks catch our breath, take a drink, and absorb the beauty. I noted earlier we had corresponded by email about footwear, as we didn't want to bring extra hiking shoes or boots just for today, and we managed to go up and down in Tevas just fine (down was a bit trickier). After about an hour and probably 400+ meters in elevation and 2+ km in length, we reached the impressive round summit of Mamangua Sugarloaf. The views are a spectacular 360 degrees, over the tropical "fjord" (really a drowned river mouth, not glacial), Paraty Bay, Ilha Grande, and beyond. The clouds would roll in and out, and the character of the views would change every few minutes. Michael and Miko were extremely friendly and helpful guides, answering just about every question we had for them. After some snacks and rest on the summit, we took about half the time getting down and took a brief dip in the cool water before lunch. We had settled on the fresh squid, which was delicious, accompanied by basic and tasty rice, beans, salad, and farofa (fried manioc flour). It was a fulfilling, long, and memorable day with Paraty Explorer!

Fantastic. We had no idea what awaited us at the first stage and the top and had made plans to join a tour later in the day so we ended up a bit rushed. There was street food, music, shops, drinks, all over the place at Morro da Urca (first stop) then a lovely terrace bar at the top. We timed it badly. You should plan to go up sometime after lunch and get settled in for sunset! :-)

A stunning boat ride and an awesome view at the top. The hike takes around an hour on a steep trail. Bring shoes! The little bay is around 7km long and it resembles a Nordic fjord given he mountains around. Great!

Such a beautiful place to visit in Rio, on top of having great views of the city there is a little walk where you can appreciate the local plants and animals. Finishing off with a cafe where you can admire the highest peak

This place has one of the best views I've seen in Brazil.
To go there, you should get a car or a bus to the village of Paraty-Mirim and from there hire a boat to the Mamangua Bay (Saco do Mamangua). Ask for the boat driver that you want to go to the sugarloaf. Try to bargain!!!!!!!
After 10-15min boat ride you reach the beach where the hiking track starts. After one hour approximatelly, you reach the top of the peak, which gives you a amazing view of the bay and the surrounding seas and mountains.

After a 40 min bus ride down rough roads, then a boat ride to get to the small village at the base of this peak a group of 60ish Canadian adults started the climb. We were with Michael of Paraty tours , who provided encouragement without pushing us along. Although two of the five in the group had to turn back as they were weak from some earlier digestive system issues , the three who continued were rewarded by an interesting, challenging hike and phenomenal views and photo ops at the peak. The heat and humidity created a challenge, however it made the swim and the beer that much better when we returned to the base. It was finished off by an excellent, simple fish lunch at the bottom, fish caught by the husband of the cook.
