I went there with a friend who is from Niteroi. The beach is better for surfing than swimming, but it is stunningly beautiful and features an unbelievably relaxed beach town vibe despite being in a large city. If you go, make sure to hike up at least one of the hills that guard the beach on either side. The one... More

I was surprised by the seemingly remoteness of Itacoatiara as it is in a major city (Niteroi), but far enough to feel remote. Although there are not many restaurants nearby the place is beautiful, great for surfers and a mountain ("Costão") surrounding it on one side. You can climb it for great views. On the other end there is another,... More

Crib of all the top surfers from Rio de Janeiro at 90's. Good view and nice water. Small beach aside perfect for little ones. Pay attention for parking, to stop at allowed spots only, if not for sure will be removed and fine.

This name from the Tupy_guarany meaning"painted Rock" and among the beaches of Niterói, this is the most beautiful, a paradise for surfing lovers. Have a "natural" sandwiche with one of beach vendor and enjoy the sunset.

Nature is the big event of this beach. The sea and mountain in perfect harmony. good for cominhadas, trails and more. Beach for all ages, with a division into two beaches, one for children and one for teens and adults.

We travelled by bus from Rio central to this surfing beach. I was hoping to have a swim but the water was not clean enough. Lovely sandy beach which is clean. Also there are no toilet facilities at the beach.

Really nice place. Family place is to the right end when you come to the beach. It has good space for many families. The water access is 15m wide between rocks. Regardless of the seastate there are no waves there has it is very sheltered by a big rock. Easy to keep an eye on the kids. Nice to go... More

If you seek for a beautiful place you found it! Itacoatiara is the most beautiful beach around Rio we've been to. Really quite and peace place, with only nature lovers enjoying the view or respectful people going to their preferred place. This is definitely worth it to go there!

This beach is really stunning, with the huge mountain next to it. When we were there the sea was very dangerous to swim in, but it was possible to swim at the right hand side of the beach where there is a rocky outcrop that filters the waves. It looks right out to the Atlantic. Really very stunning place.
