Beatiful view - take care with the sea! It's open ocean
Dec 2017 • Family
It is definetely worth to visit it. There are many bars along the beach and you can enjoy it from morning till evening. Just beware of the sea as it can be very strong currents. You can cycle along the 3 kilometers beach and for kids I would recomend the PRAINHA - at the end of Piratininga beach there is a small bay where waters are calmers. Try to visit it during the week, if possible as during the weekends it can get really crowded!

We had been told that the Atlantic beaches are very beautiful and clean, so decided to go there by local bus. The bus journey was a little "hairy", very bumpy & speeding driver(!) Goes through some of the less scenic parts of town, including favelas. Took 40-45 mins to arrive. It IS beautiful, but there really isn't much else there. We had imagined a nice little fish restaurant for lunch, but no, just a few drinks kiosks... Not sorry we went, but, just be aware of what you want to do when you get there!

Praia bonita . Uma das melhoras do Rio. Lamentavelmente água nojenta de Porco. Que Vergonha Rio

This is perhaps one of the top 5 beaches "settings" ive seen throughout the 15 years ive livres in Brazil. It is absolutely stunning. until you meet the waters edge. it is therefore sadly why i lament the a massive crime and a big shame that the citizens of Rio de Janeiro just sit back and allow medieval municipal levels of disgusting sewage and tóxico waste flow into their Guanbara bay. The water is absolutely disgusting. Like the pre victorian Quality of the Thames river in london

Piratininga, and specially Prainha, are great beaches to visit in Niteroi...However, you should try to avoid weekends because they are very crowded...Prainha is unique, with small little rock islands nearby, and a beautiful view of Copacabana!

Piratininga Beach, close to Rio de Janeiro safe and uncrowded beach
Jul 2013 • Solo
Niteroi beaches across the bay from Rio are not as famous but they are also beautiful and uncrowded. The people at Piratininga beach are friendly and there are many Kiosk Restaurants to have beer, food, coconut juice and enjoy the sun. Also great for people watching. I like this beach because you can feel very safe and unworried while enjoying the Tropical sun. There are not very many hotels near this beach which is probably why it is so uncrowded. I liked to hand out at the Quiosque Garota De Piratininga because the service is good and the beer is a little cheaper.

Niteroi Area Beaches
I did not see Comboinhas Beach listed, it is lovely. The beaches on the Niteroi side are all worth visiting, clean, quiet, uncrowded, and you will even find shells washed up.

Not much to do since the water is very dirty, but a nice walk. Very close to the MAC museum, good reference spot to ask the bus to stopç at on your way there.

Niteroi beaches
It is still a wild beach. As an ocean beach not a bay beach one must be careful since the sea there is kind of rough.
