The architecture of the building stands out in the Niteroi hills. Designed by Oscar Niemayer, it stands the test of time with dignity. The collection inside the museum for oblivion. Contemporary art is very subjective, but that building deserves better works and installations. From Rio you arrive by ferry, 20 minutes to cross the bay. They leave from the Carioca metro station area. They have frequency every 20 minutes. It's a nice walk, for a day when you can't go to the beach in Rio.

    Great architecture
Located in Niteroi, about half an hour drive from Rio, located in a very beautiful site overlooking the bay of Rio, with view to the sugar loaf. The architecture of the museum is really outstanding and a master piece of Niemeyer, definitely worth a visit! The exhibitions are also interesting but less than the architecture. My favorite site to visit in Rio!

    To impress and surprise!
I was in Icaraí and I walked. A pleasant 1k.5km walk! The building designed by Niemayer is already worth a visit! Different, impressive. In a privileged location, with views of Guanabara Bay, and the sky line and mountains of Rio de Janeiro. The painting exhibition was good too. Entry 16:30 8 Reais! It is worth it

    ARCHITETONIC WONDER!
The beautiful work of Niemayer is frequented by all who visit Rio de Janeiro and stretch in Niterói passing the bridge over the Bay of Guanabara. With the wonderful view to the city of Rio, you can see the Christ Redemptor, Sugar Bread, Santos Dumont Airport and all Rio X Niterói Bridge On Wednesdays entrance is free. Enjoy to enjoy the beaches in the surrounding area.

Niemeyer masterpiece with stunning views and good breakfast option
Great Oscar Niemeyer masterpiece with amazing views. We arrived early and had breakfast at the downstairs restaurant. The room was supercold, too much aircon. Service was efficient and the breakfast for two had an amazing selection of yummy local specials. After breakfast we checked out the museum - small collection- but this museum is more about the architecture and surrounding which is stunning. Totally recommend to go by UBER from Rio and return to the city by Ferry.

    Very nice architecture!
We really enjoyed the visit of this museum. They had a temporary exposition of the Samba School winner of 2024, showing their costumes and props. From the inside you had a fabulous view of Rio from the 360 degrees windows. We only came to Niterói to visit this place and it was worth it.

Fantastic museum and a Top 3 attraction of Rio Metro area
Thhe architecture is truly a marvel created by Oscar Niemayer. It looks like a spaceship. And overlooks the fnatastic bay, The exhibition inside was truly outstanding too. The carnival dresses were displayed in all its glory. It is a compact museum and hence you don't get exhausted. The Museum staff are truly wonderful. Thank you for letting us in even though we did not have reals. If you are reading this review you know who we are and your kindness was truly appreciated. This was the highlight of Rio for us. Sadly it is 1/2 hour away from Rip and so many do not make an effort to come here. But for those who come this place will truly reward you, inside and out.

The MAC is a must visit when in Niteroi. Set in a beautiful location, the museum offers amazing views in every direction for photos or just spending quiet time to absorb the special vibe. You will not regret a visit to this iconic museum.

This site of this museum perched on a cliff and looking back at Rio is reason enough to visit this glorious building designed by the genius, Oscar Neimeyer. We also really enjoyed the interesting interactive exhibits. Must see...

The MAC is a classic of architecture, its unique language, a reinterpretation of Le Corbusier's postulates adapted to the philosophy and idiosyncrasy of its author (Oscar Niemeyer). It is worth the walk that slowly gets steeper until you reach the Museum beach to see this landed flying saucer in all its splendor, and behind it, the beautiful Rio de Janeiro. From there, in its Praca XV we crossed by ferry to Niteroi Bay for only 7.90 reais in less than 20 minutes. On Wednesday, a day that is free to the public, we were lucky to find a Trotamundos exhibition, with virtual reality in its main room and an exhibition by a Brazilian painter.

The architecture is spectacular! There aren't even words to say. The photos are spectacular, because the view is incredible. It needed to be better looked after, as it is entirely carpeted inside it has a musty smell. The exhibitions also do not use all the available space, leaving a somewhat "empty" appearance.

it was raining when we were in Rio so we had to forget beach and look for culture - and it proved to be advantage as it allowed us to go to Niteroi and visit this museum. Just go there, its amazing. And make sure to visit the coffeeshop/restaurant - it will prove the impact of good architecture on good living

I can’t believe people recommend this museum online. This has been so awful. There are NO expositions at all. Only ONE. They charge only 10 reales for an entrance, but that’s not the point. To go to this museum from Rio (Ipanema or Copacabana) you need to take a ferry and an uber. It takes about an hour to arrive. When you get there, yes, the architecture, the building itself is very nice. But once you get inside, you can do the full museum in under 5 minutes! It’s a joke. There’s only lights off and various exposition floors with just a tv set showing I don’t know what. Terrible experience and they didn’t want to give our money back. Do not go.

Very impressive building. The view from the forecourt is nice. You have a different view from Rio. The Exhibits were, we can say, alternative. We like them. It is another point of view for modern art.

Oh my! Such an incredible piece of architecture and an abomination of a museum. The “art” was a joke. Don’t bother spending the time inside. Total waste!

The architecture is wonderful and the building definitely is worth a visit. Sadly, the art inside was very disappointing. We saw wonderful art in the government museums, so curating issues???
