When we went to Niteroi, we weren't expecting to see this. Rising impossibly out of the water was an island, worn down by the sea, but still with an abundance of trees and life. And on the island, hidden beneath the trees is a church and below was a little house on the side of a cliff. It was remarkable. It is worth it just to see this island from the art museum. The view will inspire you.

We didn't go on to the island as time was tight, but we did take in the view from the bridge and the beach below. It's a place that will live with me for some time. Breath-taking views away from the hustle & bustle of the better-known resorts.
On a sunny day it's a really beautiful place with stunning views all around.
I could have sat there all day.

So much story and history in this piece of Paradise. Taken my son many times to the beach, which somedays is just like The Caribe (for real!). A must visit if you are heading to MAC and or just looking for a great place to chill. Locals spent their days lounging around and on some weekends a month, the island is open to visitation. Gorgeous pics taken from here of Rio de Janeiro and the MAC!

I've been trying for over a week to make the visit, but it's impossible. I've been to the place 3 times over the course of a week, because the website only says it's sold out, but in those 3 days that I tried to go, I went precisely at 2pm and there wasn't even a single person there to visit. I contacted them via WhatsApp and the service was terrible. They just forward us the link to that website.
In short: there is no way to carry out the visitation!

Like almost any "public" service, a complete garbage schedule. Impossible to accomplish it! I would really like to know how some do. I've been trying for 3 months and never with you and look I'm right here. Looks like it was made NOT to work!

The view is wanderful on this place. You're able to see all the Rio de Janeiro from here. Its very near from the museum Oscar Niermaier.

This small island is located in a spot with a straight view of Guanabara Bay's entrance. The settlers chose this place to make a small fortress, considering its privileged position.
Afterwards, the fortress was abandoned and a church was built in 1650, dedicated to Nossa Sra. da Boa Viagem, a protector of the voyagers.
The visitation to the island was reopened and there are four, daily, accompanied, free tours in the weekends and holidays.
The view from the island is superb, facing the IcaraĂ Beach, the entrance of the bay and the Rio de Janeiro CBD.
The tour takes aproximately one hour and the visitors can easily manage the 108 steps to the top of the island.
A must go atraction!

Very picturesque and a history lesson as well as beautiful landscapes. If you have mobility difficulties, it is not accessible as it has many stairs.

The island recently reopened for visitors. I found it an interesting walk, with beautiful viewpoints and at the top the Church of Nossa Sra da Boa Viagem. There is a historic architectural complex from the bridge that is worth visiting.

Olá Rose, desculpe a demora. Como a colega abaixo já respondeu na praça Araribóia, em frente a estação das Barcas, existe um Centro de Atendimento ao Turista. Espero que vc consiga tirar suas dúvidas e desejo um ótimo passeio. Abs
