We did the awesome trek from Abraao which took us through rainforest and along gorgeous beaches. By the time we reached Lopes Mendez the weather had turned from sunny to thundery so we didn't see it at its best. Even under the dark sky it...More

Very nice trip by walk on the jungle to go to the beach. It's much better than take a taxi boat. Think to take a lot of water !!! The beach is very nice be careful of the waves they are big I really enjoyed...More

Hiked there in about 2 hours, brilliant beach. Can get quite windy and signs posted indicating no swimming. Moved back to Pouso beach after a few hours, also picked up a taxi boat (20R pp) back from here. Tip: ignore the desk at the first...More

This beach is very easy to access via boat and a short walk, but due to the accessibility very overcrowded. There are similar beaches on the island like dois rios, which are less accessible, but as beautiful as Lopes Mendes and with much less people.

Nature beach as one of the beat beaches in the world. Clean water, white sand and nature everywhere your eyes look at.

Walking on this beach is like walking on flour. The consistency of the sand is magical. And the water is just perfect! Lovely place.

We went on a daytrip to Lopes Mendez beach during our stay on Ilha Grande. It is the most famous beach, but it was not overly crowded. You can get there with a boat trip and a small walk. The beach is very large and...More

Great (slightly challenging!) walk from Abraao to Lopes Mendes. Recommend leaving early in the day approx 10/11am so that you can spend time at the other beaches on the way (e.g. Praia dos Palmas) which are beautiful and a lot less crowded. Lopes Mendes is...More

Hello, I have some questions for you about IIha Grande. We are staying in Rio, during carnival, but we will be in Rio for a total of 9 days. We have a group of 8 adults. I have read some things about taking a tour to IIha Grande, but not sure which one or which part of the island to visit. Some of the tours do not mention if you get to relax on the beach. Do you recommend taking a tour or getting our own private boat? Which parts of the island should we go to? I have learned that there are many. We like relaxing on the beach, snorkeling, drinking, and eating lol... Is there a water taxi we can take once one the island to get around to other parts? About how much R$ does it cost for a water taxi? And finally do you know if its worth taking the ferry?

hi Sean, I can't much help with your questions to be honest. We booked a transfer from Rio with Green Toad bus company, it included the boat crossing from Jacarei and was all pretty good. We didn't do any private tours on... More
