First of all, a slight correction and a little history. This beach's name is João (John, in english) Fernandes (with an "s"). This guy was a very rich diamond dealer that lived in a city named "Diamantina" (something like "land of diamonds"), about 350 miles from Rio de Janeiro, in the XVIII century. He became very famous 'cause married an ex-slave, Chica da Silva, an important name in Brazil's social equality history.
João Fernande's beach is very pleasant, with calm and warm waters. Very good for families, couples and children. There are some restaurants with nice seafood and many activities like snorkling and boat rides. It's one of the best beaches in Buzios. Don't miss it when in this fabulous peninsula !

A really quiet and nice beach to enjoy, specially on the right side. If you’re down for more ambiance go to the left side. A bit more expensive the prices. But music and drinks flowing constantly

Nice beach following a 30 minute walk from our hotel - not easy to find following the local signs so probably best to cycle or drive there. It's was incredibly busy when we visited with very limited space between the numerous parasols so be prepared to search for a space big enough for you and your party. Lovely clear waters.

A great location near Rio to visit with many beaches to enjoy it, this is a very nice and peaceful beach. Recommend to the whole family to enjoy a full beach day there.

We visited this beach on our last day in Buzios. We were only supposed to go for a few hours and then head to Rio, we ended up staying until sunset.
There is a sign when you're leaving the center of Buzios that will point you toward the beach but once you get up into the residential area, it is not well marked but we eventually found it. There is street parking but it is not free. A parking officer will put a ticket on your car, at the end of the day, you have to drive into the center of Buzios to pay it. It's very strange.
The beach is fairly long and became more crowded as the day progressed. To the left there are many bars and small restaurants to get food. To the right is a little quieter. There are people set up renting tables and chairs and selling delicious drinks!!!
We ended up going to the right side of the beach and unbeknown to us, It was a very smart decision. There is a restroom close by at a restaurant that is available for beachgoers use. The other reason is when high tide comes in, that is the only place that still had a little room for beach chairs and tables. The center of the beach had a sea wall and most of the people retreated to the bars above at high tide.

João Fernandes beach is great for families. The water is calm and safe for little kids. The beach was very clean, the water was clear, my kids loved to see the little fish swimming nearby.

Great beach but be prepared for crowds. Upside is fantastic people watching and a terrific View. Folks who rent umbrellas and chairs will take care of you.
