Neighborhood: City Center
Curitiba's City Center neighborhood is a delightful blend of new and old. The grandeur of the historical buildings, such as the Cathedral unique for its Gothic architectural style, stands in a beautiful contrast to contemporary structures like the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, a true testament to modern art and design. The streets are sprinkled generously with a variety of restaurants serving delicious local and international cuisine. The Rua XV de Novembro, a lively pedestrian street, is filled with quaint shops and cafes, making it an ideal spot for people-watching. Efficient public transport links on the Biarticulado bus line make getting around a breeze, enhancing the overall appeal of this compelling neighborhood.

Mandatory park for tourists in Curitiba. Large, well wooded, great for cycling, running and walking. A great ride for children, it has a playground. Furthermore, there is a real bird zoo structure, when I went there were hyacinth macaws, parrots, scarlet macaws, among other species. Although I don't think it's legal to keep the birds trapped (for a completely private reason), I need to recognize that the birds, despite looking sad, were well cared for. During the Christmas season there was a free carousel for children and accompanying parents and Christmas decorations throughout the park. Despite the heat wave, the park remains cool due to the trees and the small lake it has. I thought it was very well looked after, there were people all the time cleaning up the rubbish, cleaning the bathroom and even sweeping the streets, which are filled with kakakak heron poop.
Also, tip: 1- the herons stay on top of some trees, so you need to be careful not to get hit when walking through the park.
2- Inside the park, when I went, there was a food truck selling water and other things.
3- You can't stop on the street to go, so I recommend stopping nearby, in the center and placing a blue area, depending on the time, which is very cheap (3 reais per hour).
The only problem I had was in relation to the bathroom, it smelled, the door didn't close and there was no soap.

The Passeio Público is Curitiba's oldest municipal park. It was inaugurated in 1886 and became the most traditional meeting place of Curitiba. It was also the first zoo in the city and the scene of striking facts in the cultural life and folklore of Curitiba. It has recently been renovated and is a great place for a walk and to take the kids, as there is a very nice playground.

unfortunately the park is in a rather bad condition, however you can still spend your time there in a fun way - you can paddle on the water, or check out the birds and there's a fun place where you can see monkeys in their natural habitat

Don't leave Curitiba without first visiting Passeio Público!
A beautiful, peaceful and very well-kept space in the city center.
Full of different and mesmerizing birds, it is truly spectacular!
It is one of the stops on the Linha Turismo bus and entry is free. It's very, very worth it!

The zoo is free, its quite nice, since its free but the rest of the park is terrible. The park itself isn't terrible, but it is filled with beggars, drug addicts, hiv+ hookers and people up to no good. Police seems to be patrolling here as a pure necessity. There are pedalo boats, but I would not use them ever because if you fall in the water you might contract a disease with all the bum using it as a public toilet.
If you are the stereotype tourist, do not visit this place, you might get robbed. The surrounding are very sketchy during the day and even worse at night, to avoid at all cost.

I am surprised to read so negative comments about this park.
I find it rather charming and well located in the center of the city.
Very exotic birds, colourful, cute.
And you can see garça at the top of the trees, free, there are so elegant birds (heron).
You can rent a boat for 10 Reais ( 4 USD) or a bike for 2 Reais per hour.
There is even a small place for gym (for free).
If you consider you are in latin America I find this park quite interesting, not dirty and worth to visit.
Yes there are a few homeless people inside but not bothering.
Of course you have to walk there during the day as the center of Curitiba is not very safe at night.
Don't miss it : for kids and adults.

It is right across my aunt's apartment, and for that it has a special place in my heart.
Aside from that, on Saturdays there is a great Organic food market, where one can buy food from local farmers.
There's also a small zoo with birds from all over. It is kept much nicer than in the past, it is a lil sad to see wild animals in a cage.

What a sad experience. I read there was a mini-zoo and walked from the hotel to the park. What you see when you get there is a park that could be beautiful but has been abandoned, with beggars and junkies everywhere. The saddest spectacle of it was seeing poor, end of line hookers everywhere in the park waiting for clients, and that was in the middle of the day, around 14:30! To complete the nightmarish trip, the cages were dirty and there weren't many animals.I guess the zoo pales in comparison to the exuberant exotic night fauna you find in the park
Don't go there at all!

Written February 14, 2020
Bom dia!
