We had a lovely visit here to this historical place with a very nice and helpful guide who took us around and explained everything very clearly in English. It was lovely to understand more about the history and also to see that the building is still being used as a cultural centre for the city.

The building is not especially impressive from the outside but there is grandness inside, despite the limited refurbishing that has been done. Unfortunately, there is not much written information provided in English to explain the history and various artifacts associated with this place.

Concerts are occasionally performed here, so catch one of those if you have a chance! It would be remarkable to hear music inside the half millenium old chapel.

This complex of churchs have an amazing history and you can feel the power of Catholic Church here in South America.

The paintings are amazing and you can feel energy of monks in the place.

This early colonial era church offers numerous features not found in most churches, such as tiled walls, and frescoes including blacks (representing slaves who helped build the church). The guided tour was led by a local who was well informed and quite animated. A great introduction to local history depicted in this church. But if you don't speak Portuguese well, you'll need an interpreter who also understands his local rural dialect.

The four of us took a guided tour, in Portuguese, but with a leaflet in English. Guide excellent and gave me time to translate. The whole building is intriguing, atmospheric and immensely impresssive.

That is an old church with wonderful histories, myths, popular culture, and religion. It is a great experience to know more about local culture and information, which are out of the books.

The old church is very beautiful and interesting. The ticket costs USD 2, and includes a guide (but I guess he doesn't speak English). I would like to see a better lighting and a better layout for the pieces.
