This is a really nice and beautiful beach. Easy to choose if you like the more crowded spots with restaurants, or you bring your own chair, parasol and book. Perfect to relax, for families as well as singels. A must if u are in jp.

If you are visiting Joao Pessoa, you have to visit the beaches in Bessa. This is the place to go, especially in the weekends. However weekdays in my opinion, is the best(less people).

I stayed in a hotel opposite Bessa Beach in November 2017. The local authorites have an almost permanent ban on tourists and locals using the beach because of pollution (sewage from the town running into the sea). I was pointed to a more suitable beach 7 kms away. In fact the entire city smelled of sewage and most of the beaches appeared polluted (although beautiful to look at). Do not go there.

Beautiful, peaceful, wide sand strip, calm waters. Before anyone disagrees I will make a remark that Bessa beach extends for kilometers so you have to look for the best spots as in some areas of the same beach you might find some strong waves (during high tide), rocks, etc.
Anyhow, to me this is THE beach to go in João Pessoa if you don´t want to hit the road and visit some other nice beachs located just outside the city.

Bessa beach stretches for six kilometres between Manaira and Intermares. It is an urban beach with white sand ,coconut trees and rather calm water. Even on the weekends the beach is seldom crowded. There are many bars and restaurants.

Bessa Beach is the most beautiful Beach of João Pessoa in my opinion. It's clean, full of nature and looks like a swimming pool when the level of the sea is low. There's no waves that means is suitable for those who can't swim or kids. There are many hotels, bars and restaurants in the neighbourhood.

Bessa Beach is located in the northern part of Joao Pessoa, an easy twenty minutes walk along the shoreline or a short taxi ride away from the more central Tambau Beach. The coastal road is running a hundred or so meters inland from the beach, so its nicely quiet compared to the much busier Tambau.
Bessa beach is pretty busy close to the few bars. Lending of parasols and chairs is also possible there. A few steps away from those the beach is much quieter and you can easily relax in the fine and mostly even clean sand.
Depending on the tide you will find a few spots with a bit of a surf there, so you can have some fun playing with the waves. Usually its rather shallow close to the waters edge, a great place for children to play.

This beach hasn't got a road along the beach, which means less people, less commerce and more nature, in the middle of the town....loved it!!
