More than just a short stop

Plan on at least an hour. Well worth the stop. This is a museum not just a visitor s center. Make sure you check out the movie.

This is a beautiful, clean, and well designed facility. However, it seems that most exhibits are a few decades old and need to be brought into the 21st century. It still is well worth a visit,.

We didn't want to spend a lot of time here because of our schedule. We were happy that with just under an hour we were able to watch an overview movie and check out this beautiful building.

We saw a fabulous exhibition of exploration, science and history embroidery. Also there's an intriguing mural on a giant circular wall. The place has other historic and info exhibits, a great gift shop, maps and info for the area, and clean spacious restrooms. A must see on the way to Bayfield, WI. And it appears to be open every day... More

This was one of the best visitor centers I have ever visited. So complete! museum, nice restrooms and big gift shop. Large info center with park ranger and other staff who are very knowledgeable and friendly. Nice patio area.

We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in. Staff were able to answer questions and gave us a complete rundown on things to do at the center and thru out the Apostle Islands area.

Great place to stop. Well done. Free. Really does a nice job of highlighting local geology, flora and fauna and history. Been here three times, always enjoy it. One to two hours for us usually.

We spent part of a rainy day at the center. The historical displays gave a nice overview of the history of the area, from Native Americans, to fur trade, fishing, shipping and more. Wish we could have wandered around the nature trails but the weather did not cooperate. The binoculars in the observation tower were very helpful! Also liked the... More

Usually I expect a visitor center to be a place where you go to pick up a few maps but this one simply blew me away. This is a National Parks Service Museum along with the usual brochures and maps. The museum shows the story of a change in the environment around the great lakes from French trapping in the... More
