When you came to Belem the instant must-go place is the local market know as "Ver-O-Peso", very peculiar with many tastes to be served in local food, exotic herb and handmade artifacts. But the historical sites are elsewhere nearby this market, just few minutes away walking by foot. The fortress of "Forte do Presepio" is quite preserved but lacking other... More

As any colonial town, Belém has its magnificent "Old City" ("Cidade Velha"), with the amazing constructions that Portuguese settlers and religious orders ornated their main post at the very entry of the Amazon River. All day tours will included visits to its major attractions, as the cathedral ("Catedral da Sé"), the museum ("Igreja e Convento de Santo Alexandre - Museu... More

Despite not being an expert I think the architecture of the city pretty well. But some local people warned me to be careful when walking through the city streets. But nothing happened to me, I found everything very quiet.

The old town is just breath-taking, but you should rather not walk there alone. Great colonial style of the buildings, you can still smell the rests of it grandiose times... Worth spending some 4-5 hours there, at least

Lots of old buildings, some of which have now been restored. Don´t wander around away from the main sights after dark, it can be dangerous.

Good place to wander and see the narrow streets and very old buildings. A few good restaurants are near the park by the river. We found a karioke place that served drinks and light fare while offering a huge variety of songs on the play list. The old fire station has a set of gates that are beautiful to behold.
