The former Convent of St. Joseph dates of 1749, built by the first jesuit priests in Belém. Along the years, it has been used as convent, military barracks, warehouse, hospital and prison. In this place, over the posibility of visiting an old building and lerning about it's history, you can find a good quality regional products. Sure it can be more expensive here tham in the street shopps or in Ver o Peso market, but if you do not have much time to go around looking for that special souvernir you want... More

I really enjoyed the experience there. The space is not so big, it has a little museum of precious stones with relative history, a beautiful garden and a place in which you can buy gift and regional dresses.

Here you can find all kind of gifts, arts and crafts and such to buy at the same place and for a fair price. Also visit the gems museum and offices where they craft jewelry.

In an unusual place once a prison, operates a museum of gems, jewelry craftshops and a charming chapel. You can find nice jewelry at fair prices. You can also order a personalised jewellery or make adjustments in yours. Well worth the visit.

The place has noting very special other than the huge gems you see on the pics. Actually is more a shopping mall than a museum. If you want to buy jewelry and Brazilian gems maybe the place is good....
