Nice Baroque church with impressive ceiling paintings and altarpiece. 10 reais to enter, but it includes the small but interesting museum dedicated to the famed leper sculptor Aleijadinho. Some of his works are there as well.

Beautiful, intimate church, very different from all the other gold laden Baroque Revival churches in Ouro Preto. The frescoed ceiling is exquisite!
Entrance fee, as in every church in toxn. No photography is allowed but it is not strictly enforced, as Brazilian tourists have the habit of posing in front of the altar and taking selfies!!!.
Restricted visiting hours.

It was designed and built in the second half of 18th century by Antonio Francisco Lisboa, also know as Aleijadinh", with wonderful paintings of Costa Ataíde. Probably the master piece of these 2 Brazilian artists. Paintings on the walls near the altar are amazing. Definitely the most ineteresting church in Ouro Preto. We could admire later on, during our trip other great achievements of Aleijadinho at the end of his life, in Congonhas in particular.

This is a real world class church in Ouro Preto. It is beautiful inside and out, it is breath taking. Starting at the front doors and the art work around it. The beautiful towers and all. Once you step inside, that is going to take your breath away, you might think that you are in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. The church was designed and build by aleijadinho that left several pieces of his work in the church and they are still there to be seen. The main shrine is just a step above of all the other one that you might see or you might have seen. I've been to Italy, France, England, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Canada, USA, SouthAmerica, and this is it. The ceiling by Master Athayde is a jewel apart, by itself is worth a trip. Besides its size, it isn't the largest church in the world, this is probably the most beautiful church in world today. Under the floors they bury the members of the Franciscan Order and on the outiside the helpers and in the cemetery next to the church they still bury the most important architect in Brazil, inclluding Guignard. It is not in its best shape, they only charge something like 3 dollars to visit the church during daytime and it is free admission during mass. So, if you are in Minas Gerais, Brazil and you have a chance to visit the most beautiful church in the world, you must go. And if you have some extra money to donate, please do, the money will not go to the government, it is managed by the volunteers(they are not paid) that take care of the church. Alll the money is managed by the Franciscan order, not government and not the catholic church either.

This church was one of the places I liked the most in Ouro Preto. If you don't have much time, save some for the church. The paintings from Master Athayde are astonishing. The church architecture itself and the view from the stone market are also very beautiful. Its architecture is a little different from the others, an unique military style. Unfortunately, Aleijadinho's museum was not accessible this time but I'll surely come back.

One has to accept the Baroque, roccoco explosion of gold leaf in Our Presto churches, but this one is spectacular, since Aleijadinho was responsible for much of its decoration. It is certainly worthynof its modest entrance fee, and there is much to marvel at.

Enjoyed this church immensely. Loved the fresco ceiling painted by Borroco Mineiro. Built in 1763 its a great example of this period. Also enjoyed all the other parts of the Church.

Interesting, but not the best in this historic town and there are a vast number of churches to visit. The museum at the back of the church however is really interesting with many examples of paintings and sculptures by one of the most famous local artists.

This church is less ornate than the NS de Pilar or N.S. de Carmo. It does have some works by Aleijadinho and also in the sacristy they have relocated objects from the Aleijadinho Museum. You can get a very good photo from outside--no photos allowed inside.
