I expected a lot of cafes and restaurants around it, so I could sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
Its a busy street with cars coming and going, and small shops around it.
Not a place to relax as I expected. Busy and poluted

City is beautiful, a lot of history, a lot of culture. People always very friendly and requested. You can do almost everything on foot, but I did a gardening tour which was quite fun too. I used the taxi service with Mr. Carlos and Mr. Maurílio excellent professionals.

Praca Tiradentes is the main square of Ouro Preto, the former capital of Minas Gerais State and one of my favorite cities in the world. At its ends are two museums, one devoted to the early 19th century insurrection headed by a dentist, "Tiradentes" ("tooth-puller"), the other a geological museum exhibiting gems mined in the area ("Minas Gerais" means "general mines.")
Between the museums, on either side of the Praca, are jewelry and souvenir shops, restaurants, and travel and guide facilities.
One interesting exhibit in the historical museum: copies, in Portuguese, of the American Declaration of Independence and the U S Constitution.

The square is large and imposing, and after all the baroque decoration of the churches in Our Preto, is is refreshingly austere. The various shops and eating places are amusing to visit and their decor and goods do not impinge upon the beauty of the square.

Crossing the road can be a bit dicey and working out the rights of way for traffic takes some getting used to but if you make it to the monument in the middle it's a great place to sit and watch the world go by for a bit.

That's how you know you are in Ouro Preto. Walk around from the borders to the inside, which will be seen all the time but needs getting there too, so that you'll rest on the steps of the statue of Tiradentes. Unfortunately it's always full of cars parked and moving every direction! Somebody said this is the biggest barroque parking lot in the world!

The square is the center of the town and outside the old government building , now a museum. The square was named after Joaquim Jose Da Silva Xavia, a hero in Braizillian eyes for his resistance against Portguese rule and ultimate removal because of it (hanging). There is a statue of Joaquim , also called Tiradentes because of his activities and it is of interest his head points away from the government building. Nice square which you will see and wish you had stayed there as it is all down hill from this point which means a walk back uo the hill.

We enjoyed taking in the overall vibe here--everything from the statue of Tiradentes, to the historic buildings, the street vendors and musicians, and the wayward tourists struggling to get just the right selfie. Of course you have to spend a little time here when you visit Ouro Preto!

This vast, cobbled plaza sits on a plateau in the middle of Ouro Preto, with many arteries shooting off down very, very steep hills. The centrepiece is an unremarkable statue, with the city museum standing at one end and the science museum at the other. The rest is all restaurants, souvenir shops and jewellery shops, with aggressive owners trying to get you inside. There's also a tourist office.

historical place with atmosphere. Very steep streets on which driving a car especially after the rain you have to do carefully.
