A world Heritage site
Aug 2020
This pretty little town, about 140 kilometers from Belo Horizonte a world heritage site, has several examples of magnificent Baroque, cobbled streets, museums, and restaurants.

A magical place
Apr 2019
Ouro Preto is a gem. When you travel to Brazil, don't just go to the flashy beaches of Rio. See lovely historical places like Ouro. Fabulous restaurants, lovely sights, comfy hotels and wonderful hospitality. Some fascinating history here. The Cathedrals alone are worth a visit.

Um pedaço da história que difere do resto do mundo.

I strongly suggest hiring an official local guide from your hotel attendants. Wear comfortable shoes, light clothing and plenty of water. The place is not flat. The place is safe. And clean too.

Beautiful colonial city
Nov 2019 • Family
Bring your walking shoes, lots of energy and an appetite. Beautiful churches, squares, views and excellent restaurants & pubs. Prefect for a two day stay to enable exploring everything on foot. Some steep cobblestone hills make runners or comfortable walking shoes a definite asset. Would definitely recommend Ouro Preto to any adventurous soul.

History Retained In An Old Gold Mining Town Dating Back To 1721.
Nov 2019
Ouro Preto was founded in 1721 and became the Capital of Minus Gerais. In the mid-18th century the town housed over 100,000 people (manly slaves) , larger than San Francisco or New York at the same time. Gold and those that sought it and benefited from it brought interesting architecture that has fortunately been retained today. The cobbled streets and steep inclines can be daunting to walk in the hot humidity but worth seeing the history retained. Fortuntately the State Capital was shifted to Belo Horizonte and the nature of Ouro Preto was well retained. It is a pretty well-maintained town with many historical churches and landmarks.Catch a bus (two hours) from Belo Horizonte.
