You pay to stay no more than 10 minutes inside. Would not go back, unless you are a sacred art lover.

We visited the beautiful village of Ouro Preto with a purpose of shopping, and can you shop! But also you can tour. The history dates back to the time Portugal came to Brasil, because of gold being present in the area. But there are also precious stone there, especially imperial topaz, which is beautiful with a yellow tint to it.... More

Make sure that you have a good guide! When the churches in Ouro Preto were built, Portugal had banned most of the Catholic orders from Brazil so that they did not educate the natives and make them less likely to slave away. Thus most of the churches in Ouro Preto were built by families with each trying to out do... More

The church is beautiful and is also some kind of a museum. Unfortunately it has no English translation for the written explained at all the exposed stuff which is there. But still it's nice to just watch and wonder around, or work on you Portuguese 😉. We enjoyed much.

500 kg of gold has been treated into this church. It is a iconic example of the baroque style with already rococo influences.

We attended a wedding at this church, the sight inside is stunning! There is gold everywhere & the history of this church very interesting. We took a tour with a local guide the morning after the wedding to discover more about its history, he had some great information about the decor & the people who attended services there. Don't miss... More

So good to see the churches in this town. You can see all the opulence of a bygone era. The church treasures are worth seeing and I am delighted that these churches are so well preserved.

Amazing! Beautiful! One of the most beautiful in Brazil. Totally recommend to visit this church. It has an altar made of wood and gold. The work on each detail and paintings are also astonishing. Baroque church. These colonial Portuguese churches, had two levels, the first for all the citizens and people from the area, and the second, for the Nobles.... More
