It was extraordinary to see one of Aleijadinho's biggests work. Aleijadinho was the architect of the Saint Francisco of Assis's Church, which now is this museum. The ceil artwork is to die for. The perspective was very well managed so the ceiling of the church really seems an open sky full of angels, saints and divine entities. Really worth it... More

Some exhibits have been moved to St Francis of Assisi. Check online to see when it opens. Aleijadninho should not be missed; keep an eye out for his work, usually in wood or soapstone, everywhere!

There is just one of two pieces really made by 'Aleijadinho'. The only piece I liked is one which shows how the golden columns at the churchs are made (covered with gold).

The Museu do Aleijadinho is essentially a small annex to the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição. If you do not have a lot of time to spend in Ouro Preto, you should skip this.
