A beautiful palace in french tradition. Beautiful decor from the beginning of the XX century. It's free, has beautiful gardens, but currently is closed by the current state administration. Why? Who knows. I hope it reopens soon, but I am not holding my breath.

Belo Palácio em moda francesa. Belíssima decoração e móveis. Costumava ser de graça, mas foi fechado pela administração Pimentel. Por quê? Boa pergunta. Dizem que vai reabrir, mas eu esperaria sentado.

Its a park to sit and relax. It just happens to be that there is always something fun happening in this place everytime you go there. Natives tend to use it for fitness excersises whilst others like to display their craft there

Definitely worth coming to see. The old palace of the governor.
Be sure to take a stroll through the gardens as well - though be forwarned it is quite small so can easily be done in about 1hr.

However lots to see and do in Praca de liberdade...

Only open saturday and sunday. We had the tour with the audio guides. Lovely interior and history of minas gereis and the city of Belo Horizonte. The grounds are lovely too. The highlight for me was the magnificent Belle Epoch wrought iron staircase. Definitely worth of visit if in the area.

After many days trying, I was finally able to go inside this palace. It's only open to the public very limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. You will need a photo ID because you need to register upon arrival and your photo will be taken by security, no exceptions. Purses, bags and backpack have to be left in a locker room. Photos are permitted but only without flash. You're not allowed to touch anything, not even the walls, and you're only supposed to walk on the red carpet laid out for the tours. They say the tours are in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, but the tour guide we had only spoke Portuguese, and quite fast at that. It did not matter, other than the historical facts and figures that he's giving, the building itself it worth the trip and the hassle. A very nice afternoon in a very historic building. Don't miss it if you happen to be ere during a weekend.

This palace is on one of the edges of Liberdade Square!
It is open for free tours, each with a guide to. Show you around and give you the history.

They have the tours in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

It has been restored beautifully, and the gardens are nice too.

Don't miss this beautiful palace, ex-residence of former state governors, of which several became Republic Presidents, such as the popular Juscelino K.
