I have been told that the Central Market has become much more of a tourist attraction now than what it used to be, and most of the stands did sell most of the same items (other than different brands or varieties). There are a few which sell fruits, or original products but you need to look carefully. One of the best was a bulk chocolate/fruit shop that had products I didn't see elsewhere, like chocolate covered Acai, apricots and other Brazil specific fruits. And, you get to try samples of each.

Lot of liquors, tourist souvenirs and such across many of the stores. The food courts were busy, and the small bars were full too.

I also agree with previous reviewers that they should stop selling puppies and birds. But historically this was where chickens were bought and sold so that also keeps some of the originality of it. That section reminds me of many other places across the world where the same occurs. Bring hand sanitizer, I was told they are known for sick animals historically.

There are bathrooms, there are some with automatic gates which you need a keycard to access, but a little further away there are others which you have to pay 2 Reals to use and someone at the window to take you money. As expected, not the cleanest so try to avoid if you can.

Oh, and for some reason catching an Uber outside was somewhat difficult, and took a long time. There were multiple people facing the same problem.

This is one of the most interesting experience you can live in Belo Horizonte!!!
You can buy fruits, vegetables, cheese, and desserts tipycal from Brazil (as "doce de leite" e "goiabada" - you mut try both of them).
It's flea market style and isn't for everyone, but, if you are in Belo Horizonte, you definitely must go there!

This covered market features numerous stalls selling cheese, meat, cachaca (the local liquor), produce, kitchen items, embroidery, hammocks, and even items for your pet animals. After a bit of wandering, all the shops look the same. But with some diligent searching, we did find a shop selling rennet (for making cheese), some deglet noor dates, and even some jalapeno peppers (they were pretty mild, though). Also a good place for grabbing a bit to eat and a glass of beer, as the locals do.

BH Central Market is a very interesting place to visit as it has many different types of trade. From local souvenirs to various types of food, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as the household and even pet trade. Its variety and diversity attracts a lot of people. It also has bars and snack bars for a quick snack. Should know.

If you want to see where the locals shop and also be delightfully overwhelmed by tastes, sights and smells, this is the place. You can get almost anything Brazilian here. Great for gifts. And for yourself.

Good to buy regional cheeses, milk sweet, sugarcane liquor, herbs, chestnuts, groceries and small kitchen appliances, iron or copper cookware, etc.
The building needs a refurbishment, but still attractive for shop.
